RIP to these guys families etc, hope they didnt know what hit them. I was flying not far to the south of there this A.M and there were awful returns on the radar in this area..HIWAS was advising tops of 550 and higher, once we landed in ALO there were brief staight line winds that were pretty severe. Hope they didnt get caught in the wx but Im afraid it looks like they did. Hate to see these kind of reminders from mother nature.

The article said that one had been taken to the hospital, and two were missing. Do you have more recent information?

they reported all were dead on CNN newsroom about 2 hours ago. if thats true that great news.

Currently reporting
At least seven people were killed in the crash Thursday of a plane in Owatonna, Minnesota, a Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman told CNN affiliate KARE. Steele County Sheriff Gary Ringhofer said officials "are looking for two more potential victims." He said there were eight passengers and two crew members on board, and one person was taken to a hospital.

Me-thinks that the airport's website should not have said "all" weather conditions!
The airport's website describes it as "ideal for all classes of corporate aircraft" with an all-weather instrument landing system. "Maintaining access to Owatonna's business community in all weather conditions is a priority," the site says.

The thunderstorms knocked out power lines, snapped trees and damaged agricultural buildings.

In Clara City, winds estimated at 80 mph blew a grain bin and grain conveyor across a highway, knocking down the primary power line to the city.
We all know that planes can't fly in "al" conditions!

here is the METAR from there. ouch..

(CNN) -- At least one person survived a plane crash that killed at least seven Thursday in Owatonna, Minnesota, the local sheriff told CNN affiliate KARE.

Doesn't say what condition the survivor is in though. Hoping for the best. :fcross:

Wow, that's some nasty weather they flew into.

Note to self: G55 = Bad.

I think these are the two METARs bracketing the time of the accident:
