Pattern Altitude
This 40th anniversity of the moon landing has been fun. I've found myself Googling all sorts of stuff about all the moon missions. I like refreshing my memory about those missions (I was only 6 when Apollo 11 landed, but I remember it). It's also fun to discover some of the pranks the crews would pull on each other. Like the backup crew to Apollo 12 sneaking playboy pictures into the flight crews checklists.
Since I've been involved in designing a few PD patches over the years, this site really fascinated me. I read on several sites of a joke the back up crew for Apollo 14 played on the flight crew by designing a spoof of their mission patch and hiding them all over the Apollo 14 crew capsule for the flight crew to find during the mission. It lead me to that site, which lead to reading about other missions. Oh the power of the internet.
It's amazing to me the thought process that goes in to designing a mission patch. Some pretty cool stories of how the patch designs came to be and what symbolism is included in them.
Fun stuff I thought others here might enjoy.
