As I was looking for a budget friendly solution to my dying KX155 display, I came across this website offering a new OLED display for 530 bucks. it looks pretty good, and for that price, I would be willing to give it a shot, but the website has some interesting personal commentary on it, and I didnt know if anyone else has had success with them.

no, but I seem to recall @weirdjim talking about trying to fix these things up. my 155 display is dimming occasionally so I'm also interested in options.

Just find a friendly IA and install an "experimental" GTR-200 for $1200 and save pounds and get modern features (and a built in intercom). Install is quite easy overall, hardest part is just working in the small space, but the wiring is super simple in reality. We ditched our Narco Mk12D (and the intercom as well) that is supposedly super hard to repair (or nobody will do it), and now have a reliable modern radio with auto squelch, intercom, memory functions, push button isolate, etc.

thats certainly an option, but I would like to keep my VOR and ILS if I can... not bad enough to install a new 255, but Im about to start my instrument training, and thats all I have for certified nav right now.

I have used Ed at http://www.kx-155.com different Guy but was very happy made my late model and one of the last manufactured like new again more than just the display but some diodes that drove the day night switching. That was earlier this year and very happy with the result and quick turnaround. Sent bench test videos and progress reports.

do you mind sharing what that cost you?

Full rebuild with gas display and some new boards around 1K... went from unable to read and weak transmission to like new. Radio really works well and all in about 10 days time. Well worth the money considering my other options even as a number two to a 530.

thats pretty good. the only price ive seen on a rebuild was from bevan and I think it was over 2 grand. at that point, its probably time to look at a new radio
