Hi,

I'm building a detached shop at my house and want to have a 32'w by 14' high bifold door.

I don't want normal garage doors because I don't like the looks, but it looks like hangar doors could be sided/etc to look nice and could be a single door across that span vs a bunch of traditional rollup doors.

The structure will be reinforced concrete, so the walls should be able to bear the load.

Any experiences/costs on a door like this? (I see a thread on one to avoid where the poster paid 15K plus 2K for installation).

What materials have folks sided it with? Has anyone tried to side it in a way that it wouldn't look like a big ol' door?

New Schweiss door.. 16'5" X 60'...

Price included demo'ing the old door, weld up a new face frame, install new door, hook up all electrical and hydraulics, install new skin, insulate with 4" foam boards( R-28)...

Right at 30 grand... When open, it makes for a great patio cover for activities...

This link shows how you can dress up the outside to match just about any structure....

cool, thanks! any others out there?

Schweiss sells their doors into all kinds of architectural uses other than hangars. Browse through their pics on the website.

Camouflage it! That is not a house and those are not windows. Paint the doors like the side of a house.

I love that. I'm going to look into that on my next house, whether it has a hangar or not.

Just keep in mind.. The total weight you add to Schweiss's door framing cannot exceed 2 lbs per sq foot...

thanks guys. it looks like 17-20k installed? that's pretty fair and less than I was worried about. i'm sure we'll need a monster steel beam across the header for that span, but other than that, should be OK
