The temp hit 96 degrees again to day and the "feels like" temperature was 117. It hasn't been below 100 since around mid June. That might not sound so bad to people in Phoenix, but the humidity here is a killer. This is the worst year I can remember. It is miserable to go outside between 9am and 7pm.
I know it gets hot in the summer in Pittsburgh, and cold in the winter, but the hot doesn't last as long and at least it cools off a little at night.

We are considering moving, and one of the first places we are looking at is Pittsburgh Pa.
What can you tell me, good or bad, about living in Pittsburgh. I already know the baseball team is the "Parrots". And I like the Steelers, but I'm not so sure about the Penguins.

What is the hangar availability? Are there any good A&P/IAs that know Bonanzas? Where?

Are there areas we need to look at, or areas we should avoid?

Every time I have flown to Pittsburgh (sample size of 2) it was cold and windy. That's all I've got. :)

Hmm what are your reasons for Phoenix? Are you looking for a suburban or city lifestyle?

Winters are probably going to be a bit much anywhere in New England. The winters are more bearable starting from DC south. Lots of people go to the Carolinas for cheaper real estate (not so much anymore), and nicer winters although summers are slightly uncomfortable as well (I can remember humid high 80s)

Colorado also seems attractive, less bugs due to altitude, so I’ve heard.

Whatever you do, don't come to Tennessee. It's awful here, just awful.
Ha. That's what I always tell people about Florida. But they keep coming anyway. It is getting so crowded that the traffic reminds me of Atlanta, which is one of the main reasons I moved away from Atlanta 30 years ago.

Oh, and I did live in Tennessee for 5 years back in the early '80s. I loved it, but work moved me away.

The Carolinas are really really hot toO. Then there’s the hurricanes. Yeah you don’t wanna go to North Carolina either. Grew up in PA. Pittsburgh is a really great place. kayaking on the Ohio Pyle. really nice people. Mild winters.

I have family near there.....it's a great place to go in the summer. And, if you like winter....I guess a great place for winter too. ;)

Hope you like gray PA skies.
I do understand what you mean by the traffic in some parts of FL though. I couldn't believe how bad it was the last time I was down near Orlando.

I don't know how long ago it was that you were here, but traffic is getting worse every day. And they all drive like New-Yorkers, because so many of them come from New York. Of course though, everyone blames it on Florida drivers.

But one of the worst things about the traffic is that half the drivers are 20 somethings driving 70 through town and the other half are 70 something driving20.

The Pittsburgh people I knew found perfect spring summer and fall weather in nearby Deep Creek Lake (2G4)

3,000 elevation solves a lot of east coast issues

No, no, it's terrible there. You don't want to be there, not at all !

For the OP, what do you mean with 'Pittsburgh' ? Are you planning on a downtown condo or somewhere in the leafy burbs ?
A few things about the town:
- It's all bridges and 'no left turns'. Traffic is extremely time of day dependent with somewhat predictable bottle necks. Not an issue if you are retired.
- PA is favorable for retirement income as they don't tax certain things
- PA is very heterogeneous on real estate taxes. MLS listings are often incomplete when it comes to that issue. Two houses on opposite sides of the street can have vastly different tax bills based on the tiny little school districts, levies, levies on levies, improvement districts etc.
- Pittsburgh has a few half decent hospitals ;-)

I lived in Pittsburgh on and off for nearly 10 years, and really enjoyed it. Weather issues that led to cancellation of a planned flight were surprisingly rare. The area north of the city is lovely, and there is a fantastic flying club at Zelienople airport with an excellent social scene whether you're a member or not. South of the city is a bit more suburban and built up, and Allegheny County airport is a bit hard to get to, without any decent road link.

The location is great; easy travel to pretty much any of the east coast cities and New England. Flying west to get to the Rockies etc is a bit tedious. The city itself is clean, modern, and great looking. Prices are not bad at all.

When I was there, hangar availability was OK - I had no problems getting a T hangar through the club. Happy to put you in touch with some locals, or answer any questions.
