Okay, on Sunday I told my husband I was going to Walmart (Wally world) after church. He automatically presumed he'd be going. I said "Heck no...I want to wander and look at stuff" he said "You want to buy stuff that's not practical don't you" Well yeah. Find something new and interesting. If he's there we get just the basics.

So who goes to the store with their spouses/Significant others?

Other, I avoid shopping like the plague. Aside from groceries, everything gets ordered online. My wife isn't much of a shopper either. The smell at the mall gives me a headache and Wal-Mart makes me lose faith in humanity.

Don't have a SO right now but I could shop with some and not others. I really did apreaciate the ones that understood the need to look around but I would often feel pressure not to browse certain stores when at the mall with some of them.

Don't so much mind shopping, but avoid Walmart like the plague. The comment about faith in your fellow man rings true.

Don't mind shopping with Mrs. S. I don't go yarn shopping with her, and she doesn't come to the Iron Pony with me. I do tend to avoid trips that involve clothe shopping, and she avoids those that involve CDs.

I also don't have an SO at the moment but I have two male flying buddies who go shopping for entertainment when we are out of town. I occasionally go with them for something to do but I don't find shopping entertaining at all, even when I am bored.

It's really about wants vs needs.

Nobody is around me 99% of the time so shopping is a mercenary mission. Checklist complete, in, grab what I need, out. If I'm designing something, it takes a while to sort out how to build what I need out of available irritatingly annoying cookie cutter supplies. Hunt shopping at places like wallyworld that has no creativity at all is near pointless since if you've been in there half a dozen times you've seen all they have had for the last 20 years and for the next 30 years.

The rare occasions when someone is around, it's only people that generally think the same way I do with common goals. Two viewpoints of the same concept tends to come up with more creative solutions especially when dealing with cookie cutter junk to work from. We always get along whether it's a 10 minute mercenary mission or two week designing/hunting session.

Don't like shopping at the malls or WalMart. But you can leave me at a book store all day and I'm happy. Or wandering the hangars at AirVenture. Even the computer stores once in a while.

At the computer stores I'm usually there for a specific reason so it's not a long trip. Usually takes longer to check out than to get what I came in for.

We never to to WalMart - can't stand the place. We do our grocery shopping together. We both cook and enjoy good food, so that's a given. We also go to the hardware store together. My wife does copper art work and needs tools too. It's great!

+1. I like things to magically appear at my doorstep. I didn't realize how much I order online until now. I'm waiting for a new credit card to arrive in the mail.

True, that's one kind of store I can kill all day in. But I certainly don't know anyone else I know (besides you) who feels that way. :dunno:

We're DINKs... we go out to eat. LOL! Kidding... well, only kinda kidding... we like to cook, but our schedules don't match up at all, most days... so it'd be "cooking for one" which is utterly lame. I'll grill anytime, but haven't lately for some reason... even in winter... I should get on that. :)

Shopping: Whoever's not busy or thinks they need something off the list on the 'fridge the worst, hits the grocery store. ;)

If our schedules miraculously align to have the same weekend day off, we might go together. Neither one of us is particularly interested in shopping.

Clothes shopping is torture. Easier to just order online and return it if the stupid thing doesn't fit.

I tend to be the one that goes and "stocks up" staples and shoves 'em in the basement pantry, and the main one... wife likes that... she doesn't like carrying all that stuff.

We make about two runs to Costco a year... one to spend a rebate check, and one just to go stock up on stuff.

Don't really care if it's WalMart or whatever for "regular" groceries. Whatever's convenient on the way home, to the airport, or wherever we're wandering.

There's a Sunflower across the street if we feel like blowing money for no good reason... we miss the Albertson's it replaced, quite a bit. It's been gone a while now and we still miss "our" checkers, and folks we knew. Some of them ended up over at Safeway but not all.

Toys and what-not, are bought online typically, unless we happen to be near an Apple Store and the vortex sucks us in. Since we budget this stuff, the lure of the Apple Store becomes stronger when the account has the money in it for the purchase. ;)

Bookstores are a fave for both of us, and we'll happily hang out in one all day if we could get away with it. That said, most Barnes and Nobel stores are a pretty poor example of a bookstore, and it's about all that's left.

We try to get over to Tattered Cover and support them when we can, but since we're both reading mostly on Kindle these days... brick and mortar bookstores are becoming less and less common in our routine.

I also try to support our local "techie" book store, SoftPro Books, but they're not much for people hanging out and browsing... they want you to get your $50-$100 book, and get out. And frankly, I don't know how they stay in business, but their floorspace is 1/2 what it once was.

We live two streets up from a public library. It's usually more interesting to go in there, but their selection is somewhat small due to their size, so it's often better to just go online, reserve something, and stop there to pick it up as we pull into the neighborhood.

I'll wander around our local computer store (MicroCenter) acting like I'm interested, but computer stores haven't had anything truly new or interesting in at least a decade. Usually in there for media... USB sticks, SD cards, etc.

We've both realized we're in a huge rut lately... we haven't decided if that's good or bad yet. Thinking about our shopping habits, really brought it out... ouch. :)

From my experience it seems that men tend to go shopping by looking for something that meets the need and when they find it they buy it and leave. Women tend to want to look at every possible item to find the one that best meets the need. That takes longer but it ends up with a better outcome. Which one is better mostly depends on if the item in question appeals to the shopper or it just needs to be acquired.

Me too! You should have seen the orignal Borders... it was a little peice of heaven in Ann Arbor. 3 floors of floor to ceiling books packed wall to wall with cubby holes every now and then with a bench or chair in them.

It wasn't quite the same feeling when they replicated it in a chain store but... it wasn't too off. You lost the feeling of being burried in books but the chain was much more accessable.

I think it was Tim Allen who said; "given a choice between shopping and exploratory rectal surgery, my only question would be, "How long would I be off work?""

except for shopping at a tool store, or an automotive parts store, or ...

same store, separate carts; everyone happy.
(As long as she doesn't take a day and a half!)

I NEVER bring men (or women) shopping with me - for something like jeans. Darned hips means we spend hours trying on hundreds of pairs until one fits. But I haven't been able to afford shopping since a year ago when I started pilot training so I haven't bought shoes or jeans in a year. Well, barely. The other stuff, I have a list, I'm in and out super fast. Like really fast. The BF browses the tool aisle at Home Depot looking for deals, or the A/V section at Best Buy, but otherwise he's in and out too. We are both super fast shoppers. Well, wait, when he's at the aquatics store not so much. He has corals / salt water tanks / fish so I could be there all day with him while he looks at stuff. Frankly, I don't "get" the obsession - but then again he doesn't "get" my aviation obsession either.

I take Ted always - he's great to shop with. Then again, we shop at places like Harley-Davidson, Tractor Supply, Home Depot, and Lowe's. It helps that his favorite stores are mine too :)

Then again, he makes the grocery store fun as well.

I have to do my own shopping. I hate shopping. If I had a wife, I wouldn't do any shopping, none. I don't have a wife, so I gotta do it. It's probably an attitude issue or something. :D

If shopping for clothes, I generally go in, find the stuff I like in my size, and I'm done. I might try something on if it's a new make/model since fit varies.

I can linger in bookstores, the Craftsman section of Sears, in music stores or antique stores, or at a Ferrari dealership, or at an airport. Everywhere else, I'm a quick shopper.

That said, I have a Kindle reader on my phone. Just give me a place to sit and come get me when you're done.

I must say that I'm happier in clothing stores that have chairs near the door. Make the waiting a little easier.

I don't mind shopping, but for dishes and cooking... I could sure use a wife too! :yesnod::lol:

No no no no. Cook for yourself.
I've been cooking with a friend of mine semi regularly while I'm winterover nearby. We go through 3 times the amount of food I do by myself and we're not getting carried away with it. Two days of food there will last me almost a week.

Figure out what you need then buy it online. Only a click away. If you really need a spouse/SO, I might be available. You have to agree to stay HOME! and at the same time, live with my two dogs.
Weekend flying allowed.

The old Woodward and Lothrop store (Woodies) in DC used to have what amounted to a Gentleman's club area outside the most expensive section of women's clothing. The men could sit in a comfy chair, read the paper or magazine, have a snack (and I think a beer too at one point), and be taken care of while their female companions shopped.

I'm pretty sure that's where Judith Krantz got the idea when she described something similar in Scruples.

You have a lot of rules. Do you also lock these people in your basement? Sheesh.

I think I'm one of the few females that avoids the mall like the plague. I hate clothes shopping. I don't mind heading to the grocery store. I could spend hours at the Good Food store in Missoula. I don't do Walmart and I will go to Target if I absolutely have to. Then its go in, follow the list, get out.

I do enjoy the home stores, farm and ranch stores and the SnapOn tool truck. :) Spouse will usually go with me to those, he likes 'em too.
