I know I bring this up now and then, as do others but I'm looking for the best quality golf but with cheap hotels. I could easily do Myrtle but the prices right now are insane. Any other suggestions within a 'reasonable' flight distance from Charlotte? I dunno, let's say 2ish hours. Thanks fellow PoAers.

However, the Robert Trent Jones (think that's the name) golf trail has numerous courses around the state that are first class, and I'm sure there's cheap hotels nearby all of 'em. Time it right and you might be there when a woman's (think boobs) tournament is going on too.

Disclaimer: Not a golfer but avid boob observer..

is it greystone country club with the 2 courses? one of them looks really really tough, with a creek winding thru the first bunch of holes that I looked at.

That's the one. The regions tournament is at the founders course this week. The sec championship was at legacy a few weeks ago.

The Robert Trent course in Prattville AL has a casino nearby (Wetumpka AL) operated by an Indian tribe, Creeks. Maybe 20-25 minutes from the golf course. And Alabama boobs! ;)

How fast is your plane? If you have a slower plane like mine, but don't mind a 3 hour trip, or if you have a fast plane, you might try French Lick, Indiana. There are two nice resort hotels, although I would suggest West Baden Springs over the French Lick hotel. They have several nice courses, including one that has hosted PGA Seniors tour events, there is a small casino there, and they run a free shuttle from the resorts out to the local airport and back on demand because the city really values general aviation as a way to get tourists to come.

West Baden kind of reminds me of the Greenbrier. It even boasts a sulfur spring. It's not as nice as the Greenbrier, but you did suggest in your post that you are on a budget, right?

thanks for that! I guess I'm always on a budget but I'd prefer to spend a little more on GOOD golf. I could care less where I stay, for the most part. that's why right now myrtle is tough because they rape you up the wazoo for any hotel, if you can even get one now that it's prime "bring your obnoxious, loud and stinky kids on a vacation" season there. that's why I'm looking elsewhere, for the hidden gems.
