Was supposed to take a short flight to visit some relatives and take the kids for a spin. Weatherman said no to that, marginal vfr ceilings and rain, not fun for the kiddos.

But it was perfect for some ifr practice. No turbulence, ceilings weren’t too low.

First approach into Kissimmee (never been there) the tower says “last guy said he went down to minimums, let us know what the base is if you get in”, so I’m figuring I’m probably going around. But I popped out at about 600 feet on a mile final. Easy Peazy.

The new plan was to take one of them (an adult) from Kissimmee to sanford (another new airport for me) to catch a commercial flight. 13 minutes flight time in imc over Orlando. A definite stretch for me to be prepared for approach that quickly after takeoff while in the soup.

Spent more than an hour total in imc. Good times.

That’s awesome! My IMC flying is pretty much on hold for a few months here in Michigan. Seems there’s ice (or super cooled water droplets to be more correct) in these clouds around here. I will definitely need my CFII for a refresher once the temps come back up.

Nice! Still waiting for the first flight after getting the IR to go up in some IMC and fly an approach (other than 'cleared visual'). Filed IFR, but that was on a CAVU day. Thus the 'cleared visual'... Same here in Virginia about the ice... have to be real careful this time of year even at this latitude. Guess that's why we all get our annuals done in January/February right?

Yup, tenuous around here, fiki plane, but still, not something to be screwing around in.

I had a great day of flying too, VFR CAVU . Went to KPIR, at a sammich from home, flew back. 4.7 hrs , 2 practice approaches and one “21k a citation just took off from 31 and coming to eat you “

. Exactly! My annual is due February.

Ours is actually due a few months later... but we want to pull up the schedule so the airplane isn't in annual during prime flying weather! Yeah, it's not ideal, but shortening the annual cycle by a few months to have downtime when we can't fly anyway is worth it.

Haha I love it when I get those... "85R westbound turn is approved, be advised Falcon just departed 2 miles same altitude... no 1.5 miles 4k'... no 1 mile 8k'... never mind 85R traffic no factor.." lol..... he gone.

Well ... it's been raining here most of the weekend and I don't do IFR so about all I could do was float my buddy's FlightStar ll SC down the runway for a few hops as we test it before going around the patch when the ceiling lifts beyond the current 600' ...

This is a photo of a Flightstar (not the actual one I was crow hopping):

I went to your neck of the woods today. Braved the “Objectionable” NW of KFAR

I never thought I’d say flying ifr was more enjoyable than vfr, but yesterday the weather allowed the flight I intended to make with the kids on Sunday. I’d rather fly with adults in IMC any day.

I'm not sure I find IFR flying enjoyable but I sure find it satisfying and it's enjoyable to be able to go when you otherwise couldn't. :D
