Gotta love how hollywood views flying

My Wegman's sells beer! You can actually drink it legally in their cafe. Don't think it will be replacing Victory though.

Good to know that it's pretty well state-wide. I'm sure it's been an excellent money-maker for them. One of the things I like about them is they tend to have more unique beers, whereas the distributors will typically only have more common beers. When some of my beer aficionado friends come to visit, we typically will buy a "craft your own pack" with a bunch of beers that look interesting.

You don't even need that. We sell all of it to furriners too. :)

Yes, but I'd rather have citizenship in such a country. :)

Two hollywood movies that are darn good about things airplane being correct are, THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY, and ISLAND IN THE SKY. Ernie Gann saw to it that they didn't Hollywood those two.

Island in the Sky was OK if you like angst. The Duke probably gave his finest performance in that movie, but that really isn't saying much. I thought The High and the Mighty was made in Wisconsin. It was certainly cheesy enough.

Look at what hollywood does to anything. I imagine doctors cringe at medical shows, and cops laugh at cop shows. Do our resident solicitors watch legal shows and movies for the accuracy? Don't get me started on those rare occasions where they tackle genetic science. I've worked in a laboratory for half my life, had lots of spills and accidents, and not one stinking super power! Mutations do not give you super powers, they give you cancer.

I can't blame them. They put big money into keeping you entertained. If it doesn't jive with reality, who cares? No, there is no sound in space, but it's much more dramatic when you can hear the explosions. And inaccuracies in airplanes? As if anybody's going to notice outside of the three of us.

Wow, I don't think I've ever derailed a thread that severely on any forum I've posted on! :wink2:

Seriously, if you think Airport 75 is bad, don't even think about watching Airport 77. It's worse by at least one order of magnitude.

Just to stay off-topic: There are drive thru daiquiri shops, served with a straw in Louisiana. Also bars with drive thru lanes, they used to pop the top and hand it over.

My Dad got drunken hypoxia in the physics lab when his superconductor stopped superconducting and boiled off all of the liquid Helium. The room filled with enough Helium that he and his lab partner got the squeaky giggles.

Yeah, we still have state stores here for the hard stuff, though you can get beer and wine in any grocery store. The good news is some grocery stores are getting liquor licenses, including the place down the street from me. Always hated the liquor stores, dirty nasty places.

I miss California, where you could buy anything at the grocery. The left coast had it's charms.

Virginia.

"Alcohol, tobacco and firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency."

There used to be a store in Bailey, Colorado that had a big sign advertising Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and yes they sold all three and were proud of it. I'd used to go by there just to get a chuckle.

And just because we're on the subject of movies, in a moment of weakness I took myself to see the latest Transformers movie. What a steaming pile! I was amazed that anyone could take that much money and that much talent and make an utterly plotless pointless pile of crap!

Fixed that for you.

Yes, but you can buy anything at the grocery store in Nebraska, too, and it doesn't have any of the negatives of the left coast (at least for me).

Yeah, but then you've got the whole set of your own negatives...*cough* ...cornhuskers...*cough*

:D:D:D
