Interviewed with ExpressJet this week and got offered a First Officer position. The interview went great besides me trying to talk about approaches using a Jepp Chart. Even though I had reviewed the samples some of you sent me I still didn't readily find everything. They told me afterwords they weren't looking for a mastery over the charts just a basic understand and that I could be easily taught.

Anyway my training date is the first week in August. So does anyone have any tips or tricks with how to handle training? Also when should I start buying all the luggage and a new headset?

Congrats,good luck on your career.

They don't give you a headset?!

Training will be like trying to take a sip of water from a fire hydrant. Get familiar with Part 121. If you know which aircraft, get the flows and checklist along with the SOP's. Learn the call outs verbatim.

Another area new hires get hung up over is mastery of the FMS.

Part 121 flying is very regimented and there is a lot expected of you. Dedicate yourself to get through training and get on the line, and always maintain your professionalism.

Congratulations! That is awesome. Now, do you have a metal landing calculator?

I need to get one! I need he rotary version!

I don't think so. I want a uFlymike, but he still does not have the new version out.

Will do! Yeah they told me to not look up any information on their aircraft. They do not want me to go into training with incorrect information or bad habits.

What Rotor&Wing said is correct.
Learn memory items verbatim
Learn your flows and procedures with the FMS

They Do NOT care about how you did it somewhere else.

Congratulations

Sweet! What equip does E-jet use?

Make it work out.

Congrats!

Will you be at Gastons?

I hope to be!! I start training on the 3rd and it's roughly 70-90 days long. If I'm not done we don't meet on the weekends. So I'll jumpseat to XNA and see if one of yall can pick me up on Friday.

Funny, I was on an ERJ-145 today from Charlotte to Columbus via USAir. Looking at the same jet next to us I could clearly see the pilots both were wearing David Clarks. I chuckled to think they likely bought th eir DCsthemselves. This led to thoughts of flying Regionals myself and how much pure fun it must be up front, away from the sweating hordes in economy.

I couldn't afford to do what you're doing this late in my career, but I envy you the opportunity nonetheless. Go for it!

Excellent! Can't wait to hear more about it.

See you at 3M0.

Sorry, but I think the U-fly-Mike guy died of cancer. His relatives talked about getting the site going again but it seems stalled. You could look at versions of the more expensive Sennheiser if you want something similar.

Congrats!

Be sure to learn the aircraft systems real well as well as the MEL and how it all relates. That way if you ever have to talk to MOC, you will not come across as an idiot which often happens. Also, be very thoughtful about how you write up logbook discrepancies. Be very descriptive. Even though this part of the operation is primarily the captain's responsibility, it does not hurt for the FO to be well versed. Also when talking to maintenance and MOC, be nice. They are there to help you. They have a job to do just like you do and they really do an awesome job. And finally, they are not trying to kill you.

ERJ-145 and CRJ-200/700/900

I picked the ERJ side

I don't know the lay of the land, but from the back of the bus, there are gobs of CRJs moving lots of meat sacks around.

Either way, go get em.

Congratulations on striking it rich :D

What's the deal with your hours. Miltary ? 4-year college ?

Buy some QT Halos and go in looking like a boss!!;)

Congrats! I hope to be joining you in a couple years.

Most airlines provide a headset. Cockpit of an ERJ is noisy and requires one. Every one I have ever jumped on the crew was wearing David Clarks that were provided by the company.

Again, congratulations. The day in class that the instructor closes the book and says "We're done" is one of a kind of panic "NO, I am not ready" but you will be. Get enough sleep every night...it is more important than a few more minutes of study.

HAVE FUN - RELAX -
This will be the hardest class you have ever gone through AND after this it is all the rest are much easier because you know what you really should study.

PS....Thanks for the jumpseat rides...in a few months. Us, commuters appreciate them. Your welcome on our aircraft also...but we fly in the dark.

Many congratulations!
Do you like coffee? If not; learn to!

Congrats, enjoy indoc

This is awesome, congrats!

And thanks for the heads-up that ExpressJet is no longer safe to fly. :D

Don't buy anything until you get a job that actually pays. That AABI school wasn't cheap and you won't be hauling in big checks for a while. Good luck and have fun.

Congrats! Have fun out there.
