Had some fun flying yesterday on one of the better weather days recently and was able to track my flight with Gpsgate. Flew from KBAF to KISP and converted my NMEA file to be viewed in Google earth. Here's a view from the end of the flight.

One touch and go on 33R and a long landing on 33L. Pretty cool.

Here's the *kmz file in case anyone wants to view it in Google Earth.

There is another program called "IGC Flight Replay" that can take the IGC file downloaded from your GPS and replay (fly) it over Google Earth.

Just Google IGC Flight replay and you'll find it. It uses the IGC data file, no need to convert it to kmz.

I did a search last night trying to figure out how to pull these tracks off the 496, but didn't find much. Can someone explain how to do it easily?

You have to connect the unit to your computer and use the map source software then to transfer the tracks to your computer. Since I'm not sitting in front of it right now I can't give more detail then that. Sorry.

Something like GPS Babel may be of use. It can download from most GPS units, and can convert to just about any known format.

Google for GPS Dump... that can grab (retrieve) the igc files from most GPS units that have a data cable.

I did a quick look through the Garmin 496 user manual. It mentions the track logs and reviewing it within the system. But did not offer any information for doing anything other than deleting them.
