Good BBQ in northern Illinois ?

OK, I know that BBQ and anything "northern" is a contradiction in terms, but here goes anyway:

Is there a good BBQ restaurant within 1-2 hours of flying out of Chicago (06C to be specific)? The restaurant doesn't have to be on site at the destination airport, as long as there is a local taxi/uber service, or an airport courtesy car, or an FBO car service, or even if the restaurant can provide pickup/drop off to the airport.

With 1-2 hours at 100 knots or 300 knots?

Saint Louis is just over 2hrs at that speed. Pappy's, Bogart's, and Sugarfire are all fairly close to KCPS.
 
Another vote for Lynnie Que's at Lansing, IL. That's probably the best BBQ within an hour of Schaumburg.

Kinda sucks that your home field has one of the best $100 burger destinations around! Maybe if you go around the pattern, eat, and go around the pattern again you can call it a $100 hamburger. ;)

It does. Pilot Pete's is a great restaurant. When I trained out of KPWK, I made the short trip to 06C for a burger, a few times. Now, I just walk past the restaurant upstairs, fighting the temptation :)

Hey, the food's still good. You can eat there and just call it a preflight burger. ;)
 
Kansas City is only a little further, and you can get proper BBQ.
 
Iowa City is 1.5 hrs. Jimmy Jacks Rib Shack...two locations. And a couple of other pretty good BBQ joints in town. It's been a long time since I was there but I recall it being really tasty. Maybe someone more local can provide a current opinion.

Too bad Bellevue IA doesn't have an airport. Flatted Fifth Blues and BBQ is a fun place. Or at least...again...it was...but it's been a while.

Seriously though, thanks for the tip. I've been to the Flight Deck and it's a great place to fly for a bite.

Yes, Rochelle is definitely in the upper echelon in terms of tasty food for airport restaurants. Come on the right day in the summer and you can sit and watch the meat missiles drop in.

Another favorite of mine. I always ask "What's Cookin'?" and the 75-yo owner/chef will come out, ask what kinds of things you like, and then tell you what he's going to make for you. Always fantastic. Try the "Dessert Tamale" as well!
