God Help Me, I'm Starting to Get a Craving for Taco Bell

I like Taco Bell. As with even the higher end chain restaurants, the quality varies. None are anywhere near gourmet food, but several of their items qualify as tasty treats to me. Unfortunately, my favorite offering, the Grilled Stuffed Burrito, has gone the way of the Dodo.

Bueno is better.

I'm partial to their chicken quesadilla. It's cooked so the tortilla gets just a little crispy.
 
I went to Taco Bell to investigate this alleged Spicy Potato Soft Taco.

No such thing available... There was something called a potato "griller" that was simply potato blobs in some kind of white goo with excessive cheese-like substance, rolled in an incinerated tortilla.

I choked it down along with four rolled chicken tacos and some excellent iced tea.

There is something called a "Quesarito" that looks sorta like a burrito and is rumored to have that great sauce that the cheesy potato burrito had. I'll have to ask next time if any of the tacoistas have any idea what I'm talking about...

Until then, I'll stick to the crunchy tacos.

Most foreign assignments for my company average 3 years and we are at 2 1/2 now. Plus my family is not enjoying it, with one member of my family particularly suffering. Time to go home.

That's odd, when I pull the Taco Bell menu for the only Taco Bell in Copperas Cove, TX, and it was included on the Taco menu. https://www.tacobell.com/food/cravings-value-menu/spicy-potato-soft-taco?store=030145 I wonder why they couldn't make one for you.

I'm not real impressed with their ground beef. I did like both of the vegetarian items I had. At some point I'll have to try something with chicken or steak.

The rest of the world calls those taquitos. I've never tried theirs, but when my children were little they used to eat them quite frequently, we used to buy the Delimex brand. I haven't had one in a while but IIRC they were pretty good for a convenience food.

Chipotle started here and I can say from long experience that they were great when they started. Since McD bought and sold them, they’re barely meh. I’ll look for a Qdoba before I’ll stop at a closer Chipotle now. Better ingredients for a corporate place.

You’ll probably have some sticker shock if you visit now. Their business side is driving higher prices and smaller portions than the old days of loading up for about $5 without a drink.

Get a drink now, you’ll be over $10.

There is nothing wrong with Taco Bell or McDonald's or just about any other fast food joint's menu. No two locations are the same with regard to cleanliness, efficiency or competent employees. We all know "that place" where we'll never eat again...

If you want potatoes in fake Mexican fast food, Del Taco. They just stick fat French fries inside burritos or serve “combo meals” with a mountain of fat crinkle fries. It’s kinda weird and kinda awesome.

They’re completely flavorless without sauce and their sauces aren’t as good as the Bell’s but they’re passable barely. I have no idea how they manage to make everything so bland but portions are enormous. Especially with the mountain of fries on the side. I’ve even asked them to go light on the fries if I want them but know I’ll throw half of them out. They ignore you and you still get a mountain of them. Ha.

Also stay away from their seafood. I’ve only seen it, not eaten it, and no... just no. Their shrimp appears to be 90% breading and fat and maybe kinda shrimp flavored I would guess. LOL. This should be obvious by their prices but just making sure the warning is out there.

Their “steak and potato burrito” is enormous and half full of French fries. LOL. There’s one of these places too close to work and that stupid burrito (I don’t even always finish one) is the “I forgot to eat all day and want a giant lump in my stomach for dinner” once in a while. Ha.

I as at the Taco Bell number 1 in Temple, TX and it was not on the menu board, but it does show up on the menu on the web page. That sucks.

From looking at the photo, it does appear to have that same sauce. I'll try the local Taco Bell and see if they can conjure one up for me.

Nate, Watertown was only this summer. I doubt they've boosted prices that quickly. Remember, vegetarian food is usually less expensive than food containing meat.

When I was a kid, I just remember there tacos being a lot larger, like one could feed you, not get a ten pack and still be hungry.

I haven't eaten at a Taco Bell in like, probably about 20 years. I guess some do breakfast now, but back then when they did breakfast they had some pretty good bacon and egg burritos, and an egg burrito with gravy in it.

We have a mini chain here called Carolina's (and Adalbertos) both with the same menu and prices, and their standard burrito is all meat with some guacamole in it, and all you need is one. They used to be a pretty good deal but now price creep has taken them out of my rotation.

They used to have a large one on the menu, called Taco Bell Grande IIRC. That was discontinued years ago.

I liked those. I got in the drive through one evening, was going to eat it in the van, and it turned out the server forgot to include a spork. Do you know how hard it is to drive a Ford E350 van that's towing a trailer while eating an enchirito without a spork?

I asked for one once, and the manager went out of his way to find the ingredients list and he made one for me. That was about ten years ago, so it would be interesting to test the ability of a typical taco bell to make one...

They were my favorite for most of the latter '70s...
 
I woke up one day and all of a sudden I can't eat dairy cuz it makes me sick. My life was ruined!!! No more cheese, no more ICE CREAM! And I see a lot of cheese in this thread.......:-(

Thank God Ben & Jerrys make a pretty good almond milk ice cream that is dairy free.

But still...it SUCKS! So go ahead with those Carne Asada curly fries.

They started here, and were later sold to Pepsi Corp and the family did pretty well. I worked there in high school during the late 70's, Taco Bell needs to bring back:

1: GREEN Sauce burritos
2. The enchirito (officially - I can get the one near my work to still make them)
----and my FAVORITE that none the Taco Bells will make -----

3. The BELLBEEFER hamburger!

Went to school with the owner's daughter ... am guessing she embellished and I never checked the history until now. They did own several in our region and did well when Pepsi bought them out, but I see that there were a BUNCH in California prior to the ones in my area. Guess me and her will have something to talk about at the 50th year class reunion;):confused:
