Gaston’s 2021?

I am running a Young Eagles Day that weekend. So I’ll have to wait until the next big event to see you guys in person.
 
It’s pretty good for family depending on what you are looking for: lots of quiet places to hike, beautiful views, boating with or without fishing. And the wifi works too for the online games

Probably not until we pick up the next one, which will probably be a while. ;) They do have a service center in Milwaukee now, and they do mostly mobile service anyway. But we'll hit you up next time!

Our young one is 25 (!) and getting married this month (!!) hence why we couldn’t do October for Gaston’s. It’s working out nicely for us that no one ran with the planning this year.:cool:

9 and 7, believe it or not.

Just crazy. November is a rough month but I'm gonna go ahead and book vacation time and a plane in the hopes that will compel us to all come.

The 7 year old loves younger kids, so yours and he might get along. The 9 year old usually tries to play with older kids because he thinks he more mature than he is.
 
3 weeks to Gaston’s… we’ve got a few maybe’s still. Anyone moved to “yes” yet? Y’know you don’t want to miss out on the classic runway inspections or Braille One arrivals, or the catfish and good cheer.
 
I’m a yes (provided no one breaks the club plane). Bringing one of my students with me.

I’m a yes (with the same club plane provision). I’ll likely have to fly in daily. I’m bad at making reservations.
 
@masloki when I made my reservation, the lady told me we should make restaurant reservations a couple weeks out :eek: Should we plan a group meal or two?

How about Saturday night? Friday, people arrive at all times...and Sunday, people leave at all times.

Makes sense. I tried to count... maybe 9 or 10 at most? I was thinking of Sunday morning breakfast as well.
 
Another newbie question: How does aircraft parking work? Do I need to bring tie-downs and anchors?

Yeeehaw. This past Saturday did my first flight into Gaston's. RV6A. Still doing my 15 hr transition with instructor. 3 hrs left. Im very glad he was there. Winds were up , 15-20 mph so approach was... interesting to say the least. Rotors off the hills where bad. At some point coming over the ridge on final, was flipped to a 45 degree bank. Ended up going around on 1st attempt somewhere between 1st 1/4 to 1/2 runway. Anything after that was a chop / ride it out under control. 2nd and 3rd attempt where MUCH better. Takeoffs no big deal. Gastons, for me, will be calm days or early AMs before winds. Im kind of local, 40 minutes from FYV, so I will get to go over there a lot. TO ANSWER ABOVE, I'd bring tie downs and stakes. There are spots for parking with rings , but limited. IDK how many will be going. Also, did Trigger Gap AR, 17A. Pretty neat little strip for camping and close to Kings River for more fishing (small mouth) if Gastons didn't were you out.

Works for me. And we can adjust it the day of, if needed.
 
Okay.
I made a reservation for 10 at 7PM Saturday and for 8 at 9AM Sunday.

I suggest everyone make their own reservation on Friday night if you're going to be there.

Saturday breakfast/lunch she said we could probably make plans when we check in. She also said they have a group of 30 that weekend, so who knows.

@eman1200, I’ll pour one out for you. Then add some hot sauce to it. Then regret the alcohol waste. So, I guess I am just putting some hot sauce on the ground. It’s the thought that counts.

Ok slight update to plans. I booked a cabin and will be there F-Su non stop. Sounds like there is still some availability.

@Jim K did you include me on the count before? I was going to call them for Friday dinner.

Im pretty sure I did. There's a few maybes in the thread, so I was kind of guessing.

That’s the nearest town to Gaston’s. Brewery in town by the name Rapps. Cool place. I recommend not the ghost pepper beer.

Well, tomorrow is supposed to be cooler so I guess that’s a win. An hour and change late, a sip of whiskey and my tongue is on fire again. Wtf.
 
Ugh. Pax door handle broke on club plane. They’re looking at it now. Hoping for good news by 1-ish or I’m out my room deposit.

Speaking of - there’s definitely a pucker factor landing today…

Any thoughts on field conditions at Gaston’s?
 
:) winds are up today. I didnt enjoy my first trip (landing) over there much.see above post. I cant make it this weekend as Im still doing my 15 hrs transition RV6A with instructor. 3 hrs left STILL.... hopefully knock out 1.5 tomorrow morn. Ya'll have fun over there. Catch a trout or 20
 
Runway is good. I found two soft spots in 2000 feet of walking. Winds are howling less but call it 5G15 240V310. If you can’t make it, rebook instead of cancel to save your money. Postpone till next October.
