Garmin GI 275 major alteration?

Would the Garmin GI 275 when installed in CDI/MFD mode be considered a major alteration requiring a form 337?
 
What makes it a major alteration, if something like a Bendix/King KI 209 or Mid-Continent MD200 was installed that would be minor correct?
 
Does the fact that Garmin went through the trouble to get an STC mean it is a major alteration?

No. There are several examples in other threads where the vendor included statements in their docs that the work performed under the STC was considered to be a minor alteration to assist the installer with their determination. But regardless what the vendor states, the installer owns the final regulatory determination.
 
It might be an uphill battle if the vendor documentation says it is a major alteration.
 
Why does it matter? How hard is a 337? What are you trying to accomplish or avoid?

I’m just asking to learn.
 
A 337 requires an IA and a logbook entry only needs an A&P.
 
Also I'm trying to keep the stack of 337's to a minimum :)
 
and save on postage of sending the 337 to the FAA.
 
So you're worried about the cost of an IA signature and postage after paying for the install of the GI 275!?!
