If I add OAT to a G5 to GTN-650 integration will I be able to get calculated DALT, TAS and Winds on a GTN-650? It would be nice to nice to know the wind direction and speed at a glance.

The GTN -650 pilot's manual states, "Density Alt / TAS / Winds — indicates the theoretical altitude at which your aircraft performs depending upon several variables, including indicated altitude (Indicated ALT), barometric pressure (BARO) and total air temperature (TAT; the temperature, including the heating effect of speed, read on a standard outside temperature gauge). This item computes true airspeed (TAS) and density altitude, based upon the factors above. Also, this feature determines winds aloft — the wind direction and speed — and a head wind/tail wind component, based on true airspeed, aircraft heading (HDG) and ground speed."

A GNS-4/5x0 calculates air data with input from an Aspen. Hard to imagine the GTNs deleted the capability. Dunno if the G5 exports data in a format that a GNS can read.

Not quite because for some reason big G won’t accept the IAS from the G5 as CAS, last I saw, they were going to have to investigate.

I just asked the avionics shop to check on IAS as CAS. They have to research.

Av Shop installed an OAT sensor connected to my GTX-345 ADS-B transponder. This transponder calculates density altitude while displaying OAT. Pretty handy out here in the mountains.

Nice to have DAlt readily calculated, how ever you accomplish it.

Is there a certain sensor for that, or just one already connected to your aircraft? I already have a digital OAT connected to my CGR-30P. Wondering how that is all wired up to your GTX345.

as long as you have the prescribed type of probe

(I must be channelling Mark and Eman)

My avionics shop got back to me and stated that I will not get automatically calculated wind speed and direction on the GTN-650 if I add an OAT probe. They said that an Air Data Computer is needed. May be due to CAS vs IAS as stated by TeeJayEvans above. I can add OAT to the gtx-345 as stated above but this will only give me density altitude. I may add OAT to the 345 depending on cost.

Does anyone know if the OAT probe from a JPI 830 can feed either the GTN or the GTX345? With the new G5 version 6.20 that was just released you can get TAS and Wind Direction support now. I have a JPI 830 and it displays OAT and the FF from that unit is showing up on the GTN750 so I'm trying to figure out if I have to buy a secondary probe or if I can somehow feed either JPI data for OAT with the FF Data already being sent or use a seondary wire off the JPI OAT sensor and connect to the pin in on the back of the GTX 345.

I have FF and OAT in my 750 from my JPI830 but the issue is still that the G5 won't send IAS as CAS to the 750. I have to manually input CAS into the calculation page.

If you don't have a G5 and G3X or TXi, I don't think most of the new things work.
