I recently had an avionics upgrade on my Arrow that included a G3X and G5. While on a cross country, I had an alternator failure and landed. As the mechanics worked the issue they wound up cycling the master switch on and off several times over just a few minutes.
At this point the G5 did not power on, and the G3X was throwing up ATT NO COMP, HDG NO COMP, IAS NO COMP and ALT NOCOMP warnings. A call to the install shop informed me that this is a "known issue with G5s, in that frequent power cycling can cause the unit
to not power on. The work-around is to remove the backup battery from the G5, at which point it will power itself on once more." That worked for me, and with my alternator field wire re-attached I was off and flying once more.
I'm putting this out there in case other owners experience the same issue.
