In the "Transponder question of the day" series:

Is there any significant difference between a Garmin 320 and a 320A?

Ummm...

...one letter?

you know how the women always say "read the manual"...

well, the 320 is the lower powered cousin of the 320A. The 320 uses 12 watts input power maximum while the 320A draws a whopping 20 watts. correspondingly, the 320A weighs more, 2.3 lbs vs. 1.9 lbs.

well i bought it. Leah's birthday is next tuesday. I think I'll get her an ACK-30 encoder with wiring harness, and a transponder antenna with some coax. What else could a girl ask for?

Hold off a bit and I could give you the TransCal for a wedding present!

Transponder showed up in the mail yesterday! now i need to do more shopping.

no cambridge 302 for me. i need to get a 25 pin connector for the transponder, some antennas for the transponder and radio, and some cables for those. Need a soldering iron to do the connector, and of course an encoder. i might need an Altimeter, mine is pretty old. Other than that I should be set, avionics wise that is.

yea a logger is on the wishlist but will be easy to add later.

I think I already mentioned this but I have a nice TransCal solid state encoder you can have for half the cost of a new one. Discounted price of new is $250. It only has parallel output (Gillham) and 100 ft resolution but that's all you need for any encoder including the 320. I think I've got the connector for it too.

lance I appreciate the offer but I think im going to go with the ACK 30. smaller and draws less power, and a pretty good price.

Nah... Tony don't need no stinking logger...give him a replogle and an instamatic :)
