No not flying with me... I mean gambling with money.

There was a story here today of a guy that owed the local cassino's $14,750,000. :yikes:

At what point do you have a gambling problem, and at what point should the cassino's cut a guy off?

I abhor gambling. I lost $300 once and I swore I would never do that again.

Like my grandpa said; "They don't build casinos to hand out money."

My devout adherence to self preservation does not allow me to gamble. I can identify with Rodney Dangerfield:

"Everytime I gamble in Vegas I leave town in a very expensive vehicle...a Greyhound bus."

IMO, it's gambling when you can't afford to loose it. If you can, then it's just entertainment. Unless of course you're Bill Gates rich and $14M is an amount you can afford to lose. If you're like that and gamble that much you're just amoral - there's a whole lot of good that could be done for that kind of money that means more than entertainment value.

Uh oh, so if a guy has the dough and can afford to lose it, he shouldn't spend it on gambling? Said another way, who decides better than he who has it? My money is MY money.

Any one know what keeps the lights on in Vagas?

Loosers!

I'm a general contractor. I gamble every day. Vegas? That's child's play!

I like...no...I LOVE the pony races but I will only bet $100 per day ($10...10 races). That's cheap entertainment, I love the sport and watching the horses run. Beautiful and powerful.

I don't understand the allure of casinos at all. I work too hard for my money to just p*** it away.

EDIT: By the way...I don't understand the lotteries either. They are simply a tax on people who failed math.

I have never bought a lottery ticket and never will. That is a sucker's bet for sure. Think of all the money I have saved!

I look at lottery tickets as a tax where I have a small possibility of getting something in return unlike most of the other taxes I pay :)

Gambling for me is purely entertainment. I have a line of credit at one casino which is WELL below what is in my fly/slush/play checking account. One benefit of having a line of credit is they often comp rooms and food (or at least provide significant discounts).
Last weekend we went to Tunica. We didn't pay for our room, four meals or George Jones concert tickets (all comped). And before someone makes an assumption; I came back with $150 less than what I showed up with. As I opened up with, entertainment. And I know had I paid for the rooms, food and concert my entertainment would have exceeded $150 before gambling. Overall, it was a wash financially.
YMMV

I didn't say he shouldn't, I just said it was amoral. I strongly believe you should have the right to spend your money in all the most morally bankrupt ways.

Gambling for entertainment is one thing but it bugs the XXXX out of me that states are looking to casino gambling as a way to increase revenue. First it was the lottery. There you had the daily numbers, then a weekly lottery, then a multi state lottery, and $1 scratch. Ooooo, not enough revenue. The weekly became twice weekly, the numbers became twice DAILY, the multi state is twice weekly, and the scratch tickets are $25!
And some brilliant bulb thinks a casino or three will help?
Stop the addiction. Sell the STATE before another chance game starts!

I'm ahead on the Powerball. I've bought a dozen tickets and won three times! ($14: $3, $4, and $7.)

I agree 100%. "Oh, we're losing all that money to other states!!" Casino gambling benefits one group, and one group only - casino owners. Pennsylvania just got in on the slots bandwagon. Makes me sick. Oh, and the promised property tax relief from all that gambling revenue we were promised? Guess what?

Come on, the states have long used "sin" to fund themselves. Look at taxes on cigarettes and alcohol. The difference between those and gambling is that gambling won't generally do physical harm to the participants or others. Yes, the participants spend more moneygambling than they can really afford, but who are we to comment on that? I mean we spend money to FLY, and it's often more than we can afford too!:D
