Anybody know how to enable RMI(Radio-Magnetic Indicator) on the G5 HSI?

bnt83 check out this youtube video, it says the G5 can show an RMI indicator. Also, the comments say it can.

as @bnt83 noted, it has bearing pointers, that's what they are referring to. See section 2.2.1.1 of the Pilot's Guide. It can display bearing pointers for VOR and/or GPS. An RMI is just a slaved compass/DG + bearing pointers.

That's what they say. And it looks like an RMI. But they are called "bearing pointers" in PFD-speak.

You access them on the G5 the way you access just about anything on the G5 - by pressing the button and scrolling to the appropriate item. In this case, it's Press > Set-Up > Bearing Pointer.

So if you only have one GPS you have to manually select Bearing Pointer or GPS everytime you want to switch? If you push the CDI button, it doesn't automatically show the Bearing Pointer or GPS? That could be a hassle. Can anyone confirm?

The CDI key on the GNS or GTN does nothing for bearing pointers display. The only way to get bearing pointers is in the manual shown above through the G5 menus.

For those whom don't know, the CDI Key button or softkey (On GNS/GTN with VOR receiver) only toggles between the VOR and GPS being displayed on the CDI or HSI

CDI button only affects the CDI. Weird, huh?

It would be nice if there was a Garmin sim on their website where you can play with all this stuff. Garmin Trainer App seems like just a start and not all encompassing yet.

The PC trainer has more capability than the iOS. They don’t include G5 but I usually recommend using the 700P to my clients for the PFD as the closest for looking at some behaviors. If you happen to have x-plane, the VFlyteAir Arrow has a surprisingly good G5 emulator (I was a beta tester). It’s also RealityXP compatible so you can add a real GTN.

But as these things go, the G5 with one button/knob to access everything, is probably the simplest glass, probably a reason it’s become so popular.
