Ford doing interesting stuff next year

I am just curious why you had to say that?

I think he was just stating his opinion on my comment below, I don't think he was saying my comment itself was 100% BS.

Nothing official, but lots of artist renderings like this which could be accurate, or 100% wrong, lol.

I have a 2006 V6 Tundra, and the newer Tacoma are the same size now. I'm like you, something simple without all the other crap works. It's a friggin; PU truck after all. I swear every other drive way in my subdivision has a big, decked out 1/2 and/or 3/4 truck, always clean and no dents. Oh well, different strokes for different folks.

Lol, well my '08 decked-out F-150 doesn't have any body dents and is normally clean, but it definitely gets used as a truck. If you look in the bed, it'll normally tell you if they're using it like a truck. I never got one of the spray-in bedliners, so my bed has plenty of dents and scratched on the inside. My hitch ball isn't nice and shiny, either!

I guess my question, for those who prefer the much smaller Rangers/Tacomas/etc. is why a regular cab F-150/Silverado/Ram is "too big"? Most can be had as no-frills versions without much more than power locks/windows with a V6. Is it just the body size that bothers you? A parking space concern? It's an honest question, no sarcasm intended.

Myself I considered full size regular cab. They're actually hard to find used, at least around these parts. My Tundra is an extended cab, so I think I would have to have at least an extended cab.

I just picked up a new Crew cab 4WD F150 with the small 2.7 Eco boost ad 3.55 rear end three days ago to replace my 2008 F150. I have been blown away by the advancement in technology and I can still tow 7800 pounds with it. 0-60 in under 7 secs and gets 23 on the HWY...this is a neat truck...they are doing some good stuff

I dunno, the Explorer isn't slated to go anywhere that I've seen, and they'd be crazy to get rid of the Explorer branding because it's so well-known by now. I thing the Ford Everest is the Explorer-equivalent overseas, but it's not something that would lend itself to the 2-door Bronco image. I thought I saw that the Jeep Wrangler (with all of it's various iterations) sells around 250K units each year. I think Ford may want to get a piece of that action, and trying to make a 2-door version of an Explorer (which is a FWD platform) just doesn't seem like it would work. Surely Ford doesn't want to do to the Bronco name (which has a ton of consumer goodwill attached to it) what GM did to the LeMans/GTO. The Ranger is supposed to be redone for 2019 for ALL markets, so while it will be "the same" as the other countries, it will be different from whats currently being produced. Now, whether that's just a body-style change remains to be seen.
Ford has quite a few different designs around the world and they will most likely pull one of those for the inspiration. As far as the jeep, they will never touch the jeep as far as platform and use. There are more than enough small suv that try to compete with jeep, there just isn't that much of a market for what they do for ford to build a ground up new truck.
I see ford rebadging one of their foreign platforms for both of them and then eventually just sticking an "f" in front of the name when the sales drop.

I understand that they won't want to get into an off-roading war with the Jeep Wrangler. However, they can likely build something fairly easily that will do 95% of what the wrangler does. I think if they were planning on using an existing platform, they wouldn't bother bringing back the Bronco nameplate. I think they'd just go with something like the Everest and call it a day. People would easily shrug off an attempt at a "rugged Edge" whether it failed or not. If you bring back the Bronco, and don't do it justice, Ford will get absolutely raked over the coals for it. The only justification I can find for using the Bronco name, is if they intend to build something that can be used like the old Broncos were, otherwise you're just slapping the badge on a plush crossover SUV and there's no reason to bring the old name back. As always, time will tell. I just have a feeling that the Ranger will disappoint those fans who want a compact pickup truck, but the Bronco will garner some real attention.

Ford has screwed over the bronco name before, remember the bronco 2? Then they had the Taurus and when they wanted to dump that one they came out with the five hundred which was a flop so they stuck the Taurus name on it and it was selling again.

Lol, true. I'm being hopeful that they remember the Bronco II and the Mustang II, and never repeat those travesties again!

I know it's the Ford thread and I started it, but ran across this for the half ton airbag fans today also...

Ram will have self leveling airbags in 2017. FWIW.

Not my cup of tea, just give me a properly sized set of leaf springs. But there it is.

Ram has been using the rear-spring setup for a while now. I'm sure they got the kinks worked out. Using self-leveling airbags will be great, until it breaks. I am a fan of the manual bags so that you can easily adjust as needed.
