Foliage flight

Ceilings about 5000 here today but visibility was decent so a pilot friend and I took a 172 from our FBO for some foliage sightseeing.

Nice photos, but you know you can open the windows on a Skyhawk, right? wouldn't get that glare you see on a couple of them...Just a suggestion for next time...

Heh, funny story about that.

Shortly after I got my ticket, I went out for a short photo flight. I figured that I’d get the best shot by opening the window instead of trying to shoot through the plastic window. Upon opening the window and sticking arm out with phone in hand, I just about dropped it. I wasn’t used to the rush of air and my phone just about slipped out of my hand. Now I’ve been a lot more careful.

The nicest fall foliage I have seen from the air was on the flight home after picking up my RV at KGEV in northern NC. The weather was not perfect and ceilings were low (for me), so we (me flying, the 8K-plus hour ATP/CFI/CFII/etc. in the right seat) were a little lower than I would have liked over parts of NC and TN. Not exactly what I'd call scud running, but given the lack of good places to land, it seemed like it at the time. The trees below were dense, beautiful, and covering hilly terrain. At one point my buddy said, "Wow, those trees sure are pretty... pretty close."

Flew my Hatz today in CT. Colors are very nice on the ground, but with the recent wind and rain the treetops are somewhat bare, not that impressive from above.

I moved from NH to GA then learned to fly. I don't have a bucket list but if I did it would be to overfly NH during peeping season. The colors of the maples is so overpowering that it's beyond belief. When we moved there everyone yammered about the fall colors...yeah, yeah, sure, sure. I've seen aspens in CO and fall in a bunch of states...yawn. OMFreakingG! The colors are so intense, I swear the sky turns orange at noon. I understand why people come from all over the world to see New England fall colors.

Saw some decent color this afternoon while flying around our area. Two weeks ago everything was solid green. I didn't think we'd get much color here, but there are plenty of reds in my neighborhood, so maybe it won't be as bad as I thought.
