Going to be taking a family trip 1st of october. Was gonna end (turn around) at at grand canyon. What are some must see things along the way?

Working backward:
Grand Canyon (We flew to Valle 40G and rented a car. The gas was cheap and there was no tie down fee)
Lake Powell (KPGA, Page, AZ)
Mesa Verde (KCEZ, Cortez, CO)
Santa Fe, NM (KSAF watch out for the gas price though)
Cosmosphere (KHUT, Hutchinson, KS)

what would you see at those locations?
kids are 4 and 7

Cool, my kids are 10, 7 and 4.

In Hutchinson you see the Cosmosphere. Lots of cool space stuff in the middle of Kansas (including the actual Apollo 13 command module).

Santa Fe is a pretty town. I have't done much tourist stuff, but I liked the airport.

Mesa Verde is a national park with really cool cliff dwellings that you can walk through.

Going to Page, you can fly over Monument Valley, very very cool.

Page, AZ has a hydroelectric dam that you can visit. Strangely we couldn't when we were there because the winds were too strong. They claimed that the winds were focused by the dam and could blow you off the top. Also Antelope Canyon is worth a trip. You sit in the back of a big 4x4 and drive out to the canyon which is cut through a solid slab of sandstone. We camped by the shore of Lake Powell which has tons of water toys for rent.

I would make it a point to at least overfly Bryce Canyon. It's also a pretty decent place to stop and spend the night, though it's awfully close to one end of your trip.

I also specifically went up to fly over the San Rafael Swell in Utah (near Canyonlands) - Pretty impressive geological forces at work there.

I will work those into the trip. So far day 1-st louis zoo day 2-stearman field

Nice thing about Bryce Canyon is you don't need to rent a car. Ruby's Inn will pick you up from the airport and then you can catch the national park shuttle loop from Ruby's Inn. Check their schedule in October though. I just flew there in June myself to visit a friend.

Great time to visit Page, AZ, one of my old stomping grounds. Crowds are gone but weather is generally very pleasant, boat rentals and the like are still available if you want to do that. You can get a free pickup from the a-port by one of the hotels but you'll likely need a car to get around.

I usually recommend Gouldings Trading Post in Monument Valley, but I think you and your SO will appreciate it more than the kids. Prior permission by phone, but a nice asphalt landing strip.

Edit: A friend of mine who lives there just Facebooked about a nice children's museum in Pueblo, Colorado, somewhat on your route. I believe there are a couple of small aviation museums on the airport there too if that is any consolation ;)
