When using the Bose A20 tethered to my phone for music, what happens when radio is activated?

If I am on 122.9 which is a really common freq. will the radio mute whatever God awful 90's thrash metal band I am subjecting my ears to?

When I hit my PTT, does it break the "music" feed?

Although I have done my fair share of Dave Ramsey listening on the ADF, I have not had music in the plane before and I feel like if I had some Pantera going, the plane might fly faster. :dunno:

Do you guys listen to music when you fly?
What is your setup and how does it work?
 
It should mute when your comm rx's or tx's.

On my Zulu.2's, it will do this, though it also has a button to defeat this feature, allowing me to set volume to background levels and still hear ATC over my Weird Al, Arrogant Worms, Spike Jones, and the best of Dr. Demento.
 
I plug either directly my intercom (if PAX wish to listen) or into my Lightspeed...when plugged into the intercom, PTT breaks feed...
I love me some Fleetwood Mac when I'm flying...;)
 
Yes, it will break when anything is transmitted over the freq.

I want some nice headsets for my 6 hour XC's. Music would be even better. Although, the worst thing is when your favorite part is about to come, and someone gets an approach clearance.
 
I was extremely happy with the way the Zulu.2's I have handled music when I tried it for the 1st time a few weeks ago :)
 
I have XM in the plane. At least now it stays on when the gear is up. It does however mute when ATC talks. I have a Karaoke switch that allows it not to be muted when people onboard try to sing along with the music.
 
my iPad...phone...496w/XM...whatever...plugs into my PSE 7000 audio panel. Mute is the default but the mute can be overridden by simply pushing the ICS button (whatever that stands for). When I fly a cross country solo, I'll override the mute and set the music at the comfortable level that allows me to hear radio calls. Never been a problem.

If I'm just out sightseeing and not on FF or an instrument plan, I monitor guard only to avoid the squawk of all the CTAFs. I'll flip on CTAF if I get within 10 miles of an airport and below about 2,500' AGL.

If I'm flying with a passenger, music is too much of a distraction...hindrance...except for cranking up "treetop flyer" or "magic carpet ride" during take-off :goofy:
 
I have a PS Engineering 8000BT audio panel. My iPhone 5 bluetooths to the 8000BT. The music automatically 'ducks' under any transmission I make or any reception from ATC or another plane. It is a really nice audio panel and I have been very pleased with it.
 
I plug my tunes via IPad or IPhone into my Bose A20. Anytime tower calls anyone or your activate your mic it cuts the tunes out.

This is huge problem when you want to listen to you music but your wife keeps talking!!!! If you choose to sing you have to push the mic away also.

I guess since it's the wife, she'd catch on pretty quickly when you flipped the intercom to PILOT
 
I use zulu 2s and disable the mute feature. Usually I'm either jamming to chillwave or classic rock. Very different, I know.
 
Yes, it mutes every time anyone on frequency you can receive keys up the mic, this is one of the main reasons I don't listen to music flying, it drives me nuts to constantly have good songs interrupted.
 
Yes, I plug my iPhone into the intercom. The music will not cut off when we talk over the intercom but it will cut off when someone transmits on the radio.
 
Depends on the set-up you have. On a couple of Garmin intercoms, you can't disable the mute. I have this in two airplanes, and I hate this. On others, you can disable the mute-when-they-talk function. I can drive a car and talk and have music on in the background, and I can fly and talk and have music on in the background too. I don't need them to decide for me that it must cut off every time somebody breaks squelch.
 
If you've got a phone paired to the bluetooth on a headset does it do the same thing?

And related question.. If a passenger has a headset with a phone paired, and they call someone on the phone, does the passenger voice still come over the intercom?

I've flown a couple times with a friend who took calls with his Zulu, I never heard his conversations, not sure if he did that or if it was automatic.:dunno:
