I have a business meeting in Groton. I'm flying into KGON, I've flightplanned and checked NOTAMS etc and checked Airnav, any anything else? Do I need a prop lock?

I flew there today - very nice tower folks, the Columbia Aviation guys were all very helpful too. Didn't stay long enough to learn the ins/outs, but I can say I didn't see prop locks.

Beautiful location. Fly up the sound VFR and check out all the sailboats.

Andrew,

Any idea if the restaurant is still open in the terminal building there?

Thanks. Sounds like a nice opportunity to strafe some E Boats.

:D

KGON (Groton) Class D is easy in / out.
ILS and / or GPS apprch's.
Resturant on the field has been closed for some time.
Two FBO's are on the Field, Landmar and Columbia. To be fair, Check out Airnav's (www.airnav.com) comments.
Landmar gets my vote!

However, if you need fuel, fly to Westerly (KWST) and go to Dooney's. Some of the cheapest
priced fuel around.

Thanks. Sounds like Lanmar is the way to go from the Airnav comments.

Please do not do turn on points over the nuclear weapons or naval yard :fingerwag:

Thanks Jason. I will check them out. It looks like you are fortunate at KGON, both FBO's get excellent reviews on Airnav, but I'm going to try Columbia this time.

If you happen to see a sub just below the surface and one of the doors on the deck are opening, you are probably in a bad place to be...

Great flight there an back. The sub had nowhere to go with the mighty Tiger upon it. Sent it to Davey Jones locker! :D

I used Columbia and they were very nice. Fuel wasn't much more than Lanmar, who I'll try if I have to go back.

Thanks for the info folks. :cheerswine:

Oh yeah, have to put the tape back over the gunports now.

I flew up to Westerly State Rhode Island once (just up the way from Groton) and learned in you call (via phone) in advance, they'll have some lobsters there waiting for you - either live to bring home, or cooked up to eat.

I was possibly going to fly to New Haven CT tomorrow,... Area Forcast doesn't look good for my tastes. I'd feel more comfortable with the IR. Hope the forcast is correct,... its going to be a long drive tomorrow up and back for a meeting...

Glad to hear you had a good flight. Can you post some details of your route?

Rob,

For some reason Flightaware is only showing my return trip and even that has the wrong altitudes as I went at 6,500 ft most of the trip until I had to duck down for the lower ceilings close to home.

I went N47- BDR (vor)- KGON, athough I did get vectored a bit through the NY Class B going. Coming back I used the inverse route at 6,500 ft and got cleared direct through the Bravo.

And I hugged the coast more than Flightaware shows and that was the primary reason to use the BDR VOR as a Nav point.

Was that your tiger at Columbia around 5:20 PM? Says "Tiger" on the cowling? I flew into GON and was doing some "cleared for the option" stuff. Goregous day / night to fly!
