I am very fortunate to live so close to the Idaho Back Country. This is a video of the Idaho Back country and flying in Idaho. Some info on back country seminars and some great scenery and flight scenes in this great country. This might help you understand why I love to fly, and why I love to do it in the back country.

I was sitting here at the computer thinking of the number of friends that I have shared the Back Country experience with. I started a list and I was shocked by the number of people I have hauled in the airplane. Mike Young, Dean Clarke, Benny Magg, Rex Magg, Emil Magg, Kieth Gressley, Bret Barton, Leroy Barton, Bud town, Paula Paulsen, Steve Paulsen, Carol Skerjanec, Karen Hultz, Jack Walker, Beckie Bement, Ronald Bement, Dick Bement, Gay Bement, Essie Bement, Gordon Hafenrichter, Polly (Boston) Hafenrichter, Gordon Lee, John Tiffany Gail S. Halvorson, Loraine Halvorson, Bob Muzuta, Ailene (House) Muzuta.

Just to give you some idea of the back country flights I have been lucky enough to take and get all of these fine folks back safe and sound. My goal is when I retire from flying I have not hurt anyone or any airplanes.

I noticed when they were doing a pre flight that they were using a large dental type mirror to look in between the wing and flaps and ailerons. Anyone do that?

I think they do like a hundred hour inspection before the instructors get in to fly the back country.

I've been there. No need for a video to remind me just how amazing flying the Idaho back country is. Just fantastic. I'd like to move out west just to be able to fly in the Frank Church Wilderness Area on a regular basis. You're a lucky guy!!

Since the lodge burned down at Big Creek landing strip, the Mackay Bar Lodge has done away with their $25.00 landing fee and you can get a breakfast there. Flyers Fan 31, have you been into Mackay Bar before?

You forgot me, Bob! ;)

I haven't had a chance to watch much of the video yet, but I think that was Lori McNichol at the beginning, and if they were flying at McCall, they do require an inspection of your airplane prior to going out into the backcountry.

It is NOT a 100-hour or anything that extensive - It's simply a quick check that relates solely to mountain flying. As I recall, it took about 45 minutes. Lots of focus on the engine and the landing gear (Both the legs, and the wheels, tires, and brakes).

Once, just a quick in-and-out. That's pretty cool of them to waive their fee. The Big Creek lodge burned down maybe 2wks after I was there, IIRC. What a shame. That was a neat spot.

Ahh. Good times.
