For all you folks who enjoyed the weekend at Gaston's...

We’re looking to fly down to the Florida Keys again this January. Based on our schedules, we’re thinking about the first week of January (checking in on Monday, Jan 2, and departing Sat/Sun Jan 7/8), since I have to be in the DC area by 6 pm Sunday, Jan 8. The place we go is Hawk’s Cay at Duck Key – see http://www.hawkscay.com/ for details. We usually rent one of the big villas and put three couples in it, cost about $1500-2000 per couple for the week. We fly into Marathon (MTH) and rent a car to get to the next island where we stay. If you are interested in joining this event, please let us know fairly soon so we can start booking.

Ooooh, very tempting. Do think you could put up with Sue and me for that long:rolleyes: ? If so, I'll ask her!

I'd love to link up with folks in the group and meet some of the folks I haven't seen face-to-face, but the first week of January just isn't in the cards. Please keep me in mind for something else. If nothing else, Gastons will be fun.

Ron-

I presume you'll be hanging out at Marathon (KMTH) (edit- of course you are 'cuz you said you were!); I'll also presume that you have done this before and won't rattle on, BUT, I suggest you patronize Paradise Air, whose services I used last time I was there, very nice and professional (I rented from them, had a check out, etc.). Very convenient to Hawks Cay.

Also, when you are there, check out Mr. Thomas Mott (you'll know where he is, as you drive up to reception, he is across from tennis courts, unit 7082).

You'll know his place by the Porsche Boxster and beautiful restored old Jag E-Type in front (yes, he is in his late 80s or early 90s, IIRC).

He is old-time pilot, has tons and tons of fascinating stories and is good to share a martini with in the evening. Our good fortune to land in the unit next to his about 1.5 years ago, great fun, Tommy really liked hearing his stories. And you should see the RC helicopter he built- WOW!

Sounds like fun, wish we could go there!

For the rest of you, go, it's a nice place.

I'm often in Florida over the Christmas break, but my daughter has to be back in school by Jan 3rd so Jan 2 is a travel day. Any chance of getting together before that on your way down? Assuming you don't go offshore by northern Florida, it looks like a stop at Venice would only add about 25 miles to your route and there's good food as well as shopping there.

I'll be around there then, too, Lance. We'll be on Siesta Key for the holidays, but our travel dates are wide open so far. We'll have the boat down there, too.

We typically come down the day after Christmas but since Xmax falls on a Sunday this year, we might celebrate a day early so we get more time in sunny Florida. We have come down before xmas a couple times, but it's just not the same when you're used to a northern Christmas.
