Five planes under $45k

I would love to get into a luscombe sometime!

A little different than a Champ, but not too difficult once one gets the hang of it. They really dislike side loads on the gear!

That's what I've heard! It seems like they'd be a rocket ship in comparison to the Champ too.

They are faster, for sure, though not quite a rocket ship. I cruise at about 100 mph indicated, burning about 4 GPH, even at max gross weight. Pretty good for 65 HP and a design from the 1930s. My old instructor's Champ has a C85. It reaches about 90 mph indicated at WOT. Can't imagine flying one with an A65, although some folks do. One area where the Champ wins is visibility, thanks to the tandem seating and large windows.

The champs I trained in were A65's; they were slow, but they were pretty good for training. Nice and slow. I guess it'd be nice to have a little more power in a bad situation, but for training purposes they weren't too bad. We rarely did xc's in them.
