So how did it start? Bunch of guys that knew each other? Or a random “if I build it, they will come”? Who was the creator(s)?
 
AOPA was threatening to shut down their board, so a group of us migrated here. I don’t think the originator (Chuck) is active, I don’t even see his screen name in the member list.
 
Actually, just think if none of us ever joined this clown show. We would never have met each other or have shared the good times together. I credit POA for many of the friendships that I have today.

I don't remember who the first MC members were, so I can't tell you the first thread started by somebody that wasn't on the MC.

2/23/2005 for me, too. I think that was the day the yellow board announced it was going to shut down and someone said "let's start our own"

If I remember correctly, the original MC included Chuck (Greebo), Brian Austin (BA), Dr. Bruce, and.... One other that I can't remember (he owned an Extra for a while). Ron Levy came on to the MC a bit later, and I came in after Ron.

Some disjointed memories of that; I remember during his pull-ups, I could clearly hear the airframe pushing air, somehow even over the sound of the engine; ‘woosh’!

and do I remember him leaving early b/c a daughter broke an arm in school sports?

I"ll never forget my ride in that Extra! What a plane, what a nice guy. He flew that thing all weekend giving rides!
 
3/11/05 here. But I either lose points or get some extra for keeping my post count down to less than one a day on average.

I remember Toby, haven't seen her in years. I guess she dropped off the board when she sold her plane.
 
There’s several members who were pretty active pre-XenForo that seemingly dropped off after the upgrade. Sometimes I miss those days...

I was feeling really old when I looked at the join date. Then I recalled a "Congratulations on your 20 years on E-Bay" email I got last summer ... I remember my first ebay purchase - a stack of Sun servers to deploy Oracle on for a startup company I as contracting for.

AOPA announced that they were shutting down their board (which became known as the "Yellow Board" thanks to its background color) for a time, and some of the techier members decided to start a new one in the interim - And this is it. Our friendly "Blue Board". A couple months later, AOPA started a new one, that became the "Red Board" which recently shut down, and somewhere in the meantime some folks decided they didn't like the Red board or the Blue board any more and started the Purple Board (purpleboard.net).

Yeah, Chuck Haeberle ("Greebo") hasn't been around in a while. Brian Austin was the other main originator, who hasn't been around in even longer. @mikea also provided some technical help I believe.

Yep. Based at KBVT. Had a Bonanza, a Citabria, and the Extra back then. Sold the Citabria, bought a Husky, sold the Extra, sold the Bo and the Husky and bought a Baron, and then sold that because he had access to a few planes he could fly for gas (T182 and Navajo IIRC). He also flew right seat in a Piaggio for a while. Been a while since I've been in touch with him, I think I last saw him when I was in that area on business in 2013.
