A friend of mine (fellow waterskier) recently took delivery on the first production Mustang (lucky guy). Last summer he told me he was high up on the list, but I didn't think he really meant #1. Here's a picture of him and his wife getting the keys at a Cessna ceremony. Up till now he's been flying an old 310. Seems like quite a jump in cost/complexity/capability eh?

He lives in Utah so maybe I can get a ride next time I visit my wife's sister there.:D Prolly have to settle for sitting in the cockpit on the ground.

oh i suspect the mustang is easier to fly than the 310. could be cheaper to maintain too (assuming that, oh, say a brand new airplane shouldnt break down much). gas costs will be a tad higher though

Looks like there's some competition in that picture for who is going to be taking that key...

LOL. Definitely a possibility as Dawn isn't exactly the shy wallflower type. She is a nice person though and was probably just making sure Dave didn't drop it. BTW did you notice the N #? Hint: the first character has to be numeric in the US.

Him and his 370 kt ground speed. That rat!

And he just got back to Utah 6 minutes ago! If you hurry you might be able to catch him taxiing! :)

Methinks he's not on the this flight as I got an email from him a couple hours ago. I suppose he could have internet on the plane, but I don't think he could resist pointing that out in the message.

Thanks for posting! Pretty neat stuff. If one approached this like buying a car, could be a good deal to have someone bidding when these come off their initial lease <g>.

Best,

Dave

I took delivery of the last 172 before they rolled out the Mustang. When I was leaving IDP, they were setting up that hangar for the event. Everyone there was pretty excited about the ceremony....it was like christmas for them.

So you didn't get the same kind of ceremony? :)

I understood the first Mustang was retained by Cessna "after delivery" for promotional purposes for a specified time period. Is this the same one and is now in full possession of the buyer?

This is the third completed airplane. Cessna retained the first two for marketing purposes. This is the first retail delivery.

Here is the press release. Looks like this is a brand new Mustang.

This is the third production Mustang delivered from Independence. The first two are being used by Cessna as marketing demonstration aircraft.

Lance,

I think that you should talk him into coming to Gaston's and giving rides.

Not much chance of that. I've never been able to talk him into more than a $100 discount on a $1500 waterski (and he gives that to all the National competitors). And I was even part of the group that tested his first attempts at making a competition ski when nobody had heard of his company other than some snow skiers that bought his carbon fiber ski poles.

Look at that climb rate... my god!!! He went from takeoff to FL350 in 7 minutes, with this especially impressive 3 minute jump:

09:39PM 45.53 -111.27 220 15400 climbing
09:42PM 45.35 -111.30 220 35000 climbing

A 6000 fpm climb rate up to FL 350?? Wow. Can that be right?

Good. I don't feel so inferior anymore....at least with regard to climb performance. ;)
