After three months of unrelenting labor, we moved in to our new home in Mount Joy, PA.

The labor was mostly on the "prep house for sale and/or rental" part -- it is truly amazing how many loose handles, drippy faucets, and non-functioning switches we simply learn to live with.

Since March we've replaced drywall, plumbing, appliances, switches, outlets, light fixtures, applied 20+ gallons of paint, miles of caulk, and yards of border and trim.

Our new tenants move in this week. A good friend who is a local attorney wrote the lease agreement and we executed Friday. They both love old houses so they should be happy. Hopefully happy enough to buy after the lease is up!

:D

We moved into very nice apartments and couldn't be happier. This place is unlike any 'apartment" I've ever been in -- 10' ceilings, crown molding, granite counters, 2 car garage, lots of windows a patio and an entry patio, walking trails, car wash and vacuum, wired everywhere -- the works.

This morning I rode my brand new Downtube folding bike from home to the Mount Joy Amtrak station (8 minutes), hopped aboard the 0653 train, worked on a project, unfolded and rode the 1.5 miles from 30th St station down Market St in Philadelphia to the client site, and was at my desk working by 0835.

Add to that the perfect weather and gorgeous farmland seen from the train and All is Well.

The only fly in the ointment is our daughter, SIL, and two gorgeous grandchildren are back in Pittsburgh. So we'll be driving the PA Turnpike frequently until I can wrangle a Bonanza or some such...

The Chief is still in the shop but we have all the replacement parts in hand now. By the time we're done the engine will have a full top OH. Hopefully I can locate a hangar somewhere within 45 minutes or so (I'm on Smoketown's waiting list!) I'm looking forward to flying over this gorgeous -- and somewhat less challenging -- landscape.

Yet -- we will remain Pittsburgh Penguin and Steeler fans. The Pirates -- well, they will continue to be followed, but not with equal ardor.

Glad to hear Dan! Good luck in Mt. Joy. You are a lot closer to the Philly POA Mafia, so we expect to see you. I'll ask about hangars where I have mine at N47 or is that too far for you? You should also call Clyde Deck at Deck Airport in Lebanon, 9D4. He may have some hangars for rent.

I'm looking forward to it!

I'm hoping to find a field where I can land on grass whenever possible. Does Deck permit?

No, Deck does not have grass, but as you know, Keller Bros isn't far, and that's where you probably did your soft field landing practice like I did, when at LNS. N57, New Garden has grass next to its asphalt where you can land if you want.

Don't know if Keller Bros has hangars or allows anyone to keep a plane there, you might want to ask them. They probably will be more amenable if you buy a Ford from them. :)

yep, know it well, but they have no hangar space...

Glad to hear it, Dan! I think I might have missed it, why is the Chief down?

Decided to pull the engine and replace all the gaskets (had a small but annoying pushrod tube oil leak dripping right onto the exhaust manifold). That required pulling the heads so, the valves are being checked, all clearances, etc.

It will be good as new soon!!

Dan:

Welcome to the neighborhood! Quite a few POA'ers in the area, hope we can meet up some time in the future. You are working downtown? Kinda thought your job was going to be in Exton.

Our office is in Exton, but the current project is a block from City Hall.

I'm looking forward to meeting all the easties out this way!

OK - that's not so bad. Did the commute to 20th and Market for a number of years, at first didn't seem all that bad, but wore thin pretty quickly.

Easties? :D Pittsburgh isn't exactly my idea of "out west"! Anyway, best of luck in the new place and finding a home for the plane.
