Sounds like he flew into icing conditions.

Sad deal, 3/4 mile from town and had to carry the survivors out by hand.

Not far from where I used to live (chevak & bethel), it's especially sad because in those villages and the connected villages pretty much everyone knows and is related in some way to everyone else.

Especially in the middle of winter when spirits are inherently a bit down...
