They've finally processed my night rating. Only took over 3 months. Remind me not to complain about FAA turnaround.

In Canada, you can't fly at night without a night rating. However, if you are instrument rated, it overrides the night rating so you can fly at night. And yes, some training is the same. They require a certain amount of hood, sim, or actual IMC time.

So in Canada, there is Day "VFR", Night "VFR", and IFR

Can you fly night VFR with an instrument rating?

Yes, the instrument rating overrides the night rating. So to fly a Canadian registered plane at night, you could just have the Canadian IR.

As I am taking my IR in the USA, and it will be added to my FAA ASEL license when I pass my check ride, I can then go to Canada, take their written knowledge test and will have a Canadian IR as well (due to reciprocity no checkride is required). That would have overridden the Canadian night rating. However, I want both license in sync. So when I was in Canada for my grandmother's funeral, I went into TC with my log books, they copied the applicable pages. I then filled out paperwork and paid my $30 or $35 fee and was told it would be a max of two months.

Most people here have never experienced anything other than the FAA, thus all of the "FAA is horrible stories".

If they experienced how the rest of the world handles aviation then they would see the US has it pretty good all things considered.

Ok they processed it....allegedly.....now where is it? Oh yeah. It was sent via the post office.

Well - they ARE horrible - they just happen to be better than the others but that still doesn't make them good.

I beg to differ, I don't think they are "better", I still prefer Transport Canada to FAA, but that's just me.

Like I've written several times, the FAA needs to just go to the Post Office system........When you want a license go down to the Post Office, fill out a card and mail it in.

However, then there will be those that will complain about the trip to the post office or that the card is too hard to fill out.

Over a week has passed since it was allegedly mailed. The count is on....

Mail between US and Canada is always slow. Normal snail mail within Canada is within 2-3 days. From Canada to US and vice versa, can take two weeks.

My US suppliers get real happy about that. (The check/cheque's in the mail, and truly it is!)

Are you sure? I fathom that it might be 13 stone or maybe 2.5 furlongs?

I hear the airspeed indicators up there read out in furlongs to fortnights.

Yeah I know....I have relatives still in Canada. Its just that the person at TC has a credibility issue in my opinion. I had send numerous emails (3-4) and left 5 messages to find out the status and this person never got back to me until I copied the general e-mail address stating that I had sent emails and left messages with no response over the past several weeks. So me being told it was "in the mail" doesn't hold water due to the history.

BTW, when I was in Twasson (sp?) in the late 1970's I flew for a couple of months out of the Pacific Flying Club. Are they still around?

Tsawwassen

Pacific Flying Club still around...

Boundary Bay Airport is much changed...has grown up, new terminal building, runway extension etc.

A busy airspace-150,000 aircraft movements/year.

Rating still hasn't arrived. Called another office. It turns out the TC person wrote down the wrong address and that's why I haven't received it yet in the mail.

Incompetence knows no boundaries.

Next time, PM me, send it to my office, I'll walk it across the border and put it into a USPS box.

Thanks for the offer. I seem to have found a competent person in the Toronto office. So I guess when the time is right I'll fly to T.O. And do the FAA - TC conversion exam and fill out paperwork there. I have to go to The Peg for my medical this fall as well.

Competent person in Toronto came through. Night rating showed up today.
