If you do the instrument rating exam, go ahead and do the Instrument Ground Instructor and Instrument Flight Instructor exams as well. They’re all pretty much the same exam. (Of course the CFI Airplane written is only good for 24 months.)
Next do the FOI written and you’ll have what you need for the Instrument Ground Instructor certificate. You also have met the FOI written requirement for the CFI when you take the FOI and IGI written exams to a DPE or FSDO and issued the Ground Instructor certificate.
Same thing with the CFI written. Take the CFI written for Airplane and then the Ground Instructor written exam. This will give you the Ground Instructor Advanced certificate when combined with the FOI written.
