You ferried your plane from Florida to California. We should be asking *you* for advice. ;)

KMKC is a cell service dead zone. Especially if you are trying to pick up your IFR clearance and figure out at the hold short line that you accidentally tapped the wrong tail number in ForeFlight when you filed. Or so I’ve heard.

The rest looks like ground you’ve covered more recently than I have. Be aware of DA, NM is bumpy, and other standard advice applies.

Are you stopping at all those airports or just using them to plan the route?

Weather in Northeastern Arizona and Northwestern New Mexico is not trending well. I will depart Thursday at about 1030 local time, right after a meeting. I now plan to head South to the coast then Southeast along the Orange County coastline at 9500 feet where it will be cooler. When I reach the San Diego Class B, I'll go over the top of the Bravo and turn East (unless I can get cleared into the Bravo).

I'll stay just North of the US / Mexico border and eventually turn Southeast to Tucson where I will spend the night. I'll land about 13:30 local time and it will likely be 100° fahrenheit.

My plan for Friday is to depart as early as possible, and get as far east as possible, before any T-storms start developing.

I've left plenty of time, need to be in KC on Sunday.

MKC tower is 24/7

I guess I worded that vaguely. I had filed a flight plan under the wrong tail number, called ground to pick up the clearance, and they couldn't find it. I decided to taxi out and do a run up while I waited for the plan to show up for them, and it never did. The lack of cell service prevented me from filing a new flight plan online. Fortunately, tower helped with the amendment so I could get in the air without taxiing back to get on WiFi.

To leave the area on the Mexican border I'd fly from El Monte more-or-less direct to Calexico, initially overhead Corona, French Valley etc. No need to go near the coast or the San Diego Class B airspace.

Yes that is a good route too! I'm just heading to the coast to enjoy the view and a little cooler air...

That makes sense. I've not had any cell issues there recently.

It probably also depends on the carrier. My Android phone is Verizon and my iPad Mini 6 is pay as you go T-Mobile.
I’m all Verizon. My phone, my iPad, and my passenger’s phone were all unable to make a data connection. It could have also been just that day, conspiring against easy solutions.

Great trip! Special occasion? Only advice I can offer is leave early at dawn's early light to beat the DA, heat, turbulence, etc.

Conference starting Sunday afternoon... Yes, thanks, Thursday I can't get airborne until about 1030 but the following days will definitely be early!

I hope to depart by 1015 PST today and this is the current plan. Wx is looking good so far.... N144SE

Q39 is some of the best bbq in KC. Jack Stack at Union Station has some of the best sides, and isn't too far from the airport if you are only there for a short time. Oh you meant flying advice? Yeah the typical pay attention to DA is probably the most important thing.

Thanks to CMSUav8r for bringing us back to the core values of POA. Seriously - this should all be fun!

Appreciate that as well!

Made it to Tucson KTUS despite a little late departure (I was #5 fo the fuel truck when I called for fuel...)

Overall uneventful, very cool and beautiful along the coast, then it got hotter and hotter, and bumpy, and a very small amount of precipitation. I was able to maneuver around the heavy showers as ATC was very proactive in giving detailed locations.

Now I need to plan, and refuel myself, for tomorrow. I think I'll have lunch and fuel in Carlsbad, NM.

Today Tucson AZ - KTUS, to Hobbs, NM - KHOB, to Tulsa, OK - KTUL.

So weather to avoid the first leg and moderate chop the second leg, and pretty hot in New Mexico.

But I'm less than two hours from Kansas City, MO KMKC now...

I made it to MKC!!!

Wonderful flight this morning from Tulsa OK to Kansas City, MO.

KTUL -> KMKC

No real weather issues and as I approached KC airport the cross wind from the left increased to 49kts. So a significant push from the rear and left while I was in the pattern to land. The approach was one of the prettiest with skyscrapers on the right, two rivers, a beautiful bridge, and a freight train station with numerous tracks.

I'm here for a few days then reverse courses back to SoCal...

Made it back safely yesterday!

Departed KMKC Kansas City MO Wednesday morning and stopped at KSPS Sheppard AFB/Wichita Falls Muni for fuel and food at the terminal. Then on to KELP El Paso TX for the night.

Thursday morning departed KELP to KTUS Tucson AZ for fuel and pilot lunch. From there all the way home to KEMT San Gabriel Valley airport, El Monte, CA.

So made it back with only one overnight stop. Just over 3400nm total there and back.
