Serious Topic - jokes aside - are there any pitfalls to seeking treatment for ED in regards to a pilots medical?

I have been prescribed ED meds for the past 14 years, it has had no effect on my 3rd class medical certificate.

The FAA website specifies a waiting period after each dose before you fly.

dangit, thought it might have been a thread about edfred. you got me good that time, although it's not that hard..............

It’s serious enough to get 10 % disability for it in the military. All you got to do is claim it on the VA physical during out processing. It’s not that hard…

Do you know the waiting period? Asking for a friend. Thanks

Depends on the treatment. Assuming it just one of the little pills like Viagra, 8 hours after the last dose before flying if no side effects. Cialis is 24 hours. If the treatment for the ED is something else like an alpha blocker, it's a whole different can of worms.

But, sticking to viagra and such there's plenty of time. 8 hours excite to flight? Thank you, thank you, remember to tip your waitresses

Thanks. I am surprised ED tx is not a bigger deal for FAA. We want safe and healthy pilots. If you need ED tx then something is wrong. We cannot determine your eligibility until we get the spousal statement letter, HIMS eval, and more information.

Sarcasm should be in green text so it's identifiable.

Though I'm sure this post was more sarcastic than anything, and based on the responses this may be the one area where the FAA is less conservative than modern medical practice: ED can be and often is a sign of vascular disease, including vascular disease caused by undiagnosed diabetes. If anyone reading this has new or developing ED and doesn't know why, please get a thorough checkup by your primary care doc.

Good to know! There are of course psychological factors that are at play here as well for some, so to me going into a Dr. to get a diagnosis for ED caused by anxiety/stress surely would open up another ball of wax with your AME/FAA.

The question then becomes do you chose flying or a healthy sex life?
