Just thought I'd share.

And it would appear that we could nuke most of New Mexico (again) and nobody would notice...

(With apologies to Nick, even though he escaped.) ;)

ABQ enroute PHX.

At least it's warmer in Phoenix.

I'll edit and say driving sucks compared to flying. I don't really mind driving, it's just not as fun as doing this trip in the 182.

Murph, we did get lucky in that regard, eh?

The PHX people will be acting like they're freezing to death at 60F while we'll be happy we are away during the 5F week at home. LOL!

I just finished 13 hours from CO to TX. About half of it was done in blowing snow, ice, and sleet. I was looking up at the sky, with maybe 1 mile vis and ceilings less than 300' and saying I was glad I was down here, and not up there. However, when it's nice, I prefer 4 hours flying to 12+ hours driving.

You left a day too early. Blue skies, CAVU, bunch of wind, today.

Well I'll give ABQ one thing. They do know how to do green chile and chorizo.

My lips are burning. Time to head toward Flagstaff...

Where a different part of my anatomy may be burning. But it's sooooo worth it. ;)

;)

I wanted to leave on Sat, but the fam decided they wanted to leave Fri. Since they did 1/100th of the driving, and I did the rest, it only seemed fair.

I like driving. In fact, I've been thinking how I need a good road trip.

Time to buy a new car in another state and drive it home. :)

I call that "enjoying it twice". I like New Mexico food better than Old Mexico. NM seems to appreciate heat.

Just did 1100 miles to MS and back. Weather was crappy, but I haven't figured out how to get a trailer behind the Bonanza either. Picked up my grandfathers 65 Chevy C10 to bring back and restore.

Well, you can buy it from me and drive it home! :D

Ooh nice restoration project. Do you own stock in LMC truck yet? ;)

We decided we weren't on any hard schedule so we stopped in Gallup.

I was fine to keep driving but finding anyone at a hotel front desk in Flagstaff at 1AM or later, may have been annoyingly difficult. And I didn't feel like doing an all nighter all the way into PHX.

Plus a few days ago I was hobbling around with my back killing me, so not pushing it until it goes back the wrong way toward bad, is probably smart. It's better today, but still a little sore. Lying down feels puuuurty good right now.

Of course if we were in the 182, we'd be there. Heh. Oh well.

There's TV shows I've never heard of on the TV. Heh. Kinda cool to realize how long we haven't paid for the stuff and what little we're missing!

Hmm flipping channels. What's this Airasia 8501 crap? Sigh. Another missing plane???

John, would definitely call you first if I wanted a new Ford! I go around in circles with what I want. Mustang, Challenger, or Z3/Z4 are top on the list.

Ted wanna buy the Alero? ;)

That would change my opinion on enjoying driving. No thanks. ;)

Driving has gotten exponentially scarier since the advent of the cell phone. I like 2-seaters, but the risk of getting squished by the oblivious soccer mom in her Suburban or Tahoe is such that I usually drive the pickup these days.

Apparently cell phone laws don't apply to them.

Driving could be fun if the speed limit was 100 kn/h, and there were no stupid drivers on the roads (so pretty much everybody except me). :goofy::goofy::goofy:

All about mindset.

Karen and I road trip well together. We load up podcasts, have Sirius radio, have a bunch of Pandora stations and via iTunes Match have access to our complete iTunes library.

And then there's the road snacks - Dunkin' Donuts, Waffle House - yum!

Heading south to FL in a couple weeks with "Campy", our travel trailer. Leaving it and our Flex at a friend's landing strip in Lake Placid. Then we'll be able to fly down in the Sky Arrow and road trip from there!

Life is good!*

*If you can avoid Atlanta traffic, that is! :mad2:

Hey Murph, Colorado *is* warmer... Heh.

No such law in AR.... Talk all you want while having your left blinker on in the fast lane, doing 4 mph below the speed limit and a sweet tea in the other hand. AR drivers think they own the left lane and WILL.....NOT.....MOVE.....OVER!

For the last year and a half I've been enjoying a Mustang 5.0 (coyote) with 6sp manual, track pack, and Recarro seats. Lots of fun, but I warn you. Driving this car is like opening a can of instant jackass

Yeah, but my first car was an '82 Jaguar XJ-S V12 that I put a Tremec TKO in and put on a racing suspension. My current fun car is a '93 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 with about 450 HP.

Point being, I got no shortage of experience with that sort of thing. ;)

I drove a V6 Mustang rental car a couple of years ago and did really like it. It had nice fit and finish, drove well, and even the V6 was pretty peppy. The Challenger appeals to me quite a bit after riding in an SRT8 variant. On the other hand, I've never owned a real "light/sporty" car or a convertible, and the Z3/Z4 appeal to me as options. Get one with the "big" engine and throw a blower on it. I miss rear wheel drive.

Try Tennessee sometime.

Did that in the 68 Chevelle last Friday after my son had a holey fuel injection kit put on it. Easily got her sideways in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. didn't hit anything though

Oh by the way, the diesel is fun at sea level.

(well 1000 MSL or whatever...)

It keeps whining that it's over boosting because I set the boost alarm conservatively in Denver.

May have to go into the computer and change that. ;)

Getting ready to do the Ma. To Fla. Trip in a few days. Can't say it's a lot of fun . Have to get the convertible down for the winter. Planes been there since Sept.

At one time I loved to drive. Always drove custom cars and trucks. Had a 4X4 Chevy s10 with solid front axle on 35's with a v8. A 6-71 supercharged v8 s10 that was street legal, and a few others. After gas went over 3 bucks a gallon I sold all my cars and trucks. The wife has a car she drives, if I want to go anywhere I go with her or barrow her car. The only other time I burn gas is in my airplane. My way to protest gas prices by not using it or using very little compared to what I used not many years ago.

Nothing says "relaxing car trip" like a nice ride down I-95.

I don't mind that drive terribly. Laurie and I did it in her Avalanche 4 years ago. An easy day.

We drove MCO=>CHA yesterday, including going thru ATL. Not a bad drive, but I like to leave early. I pulled the early morning shift, 4:30am to 9:30am, then stopped for breakfast. My wife pulled the mid-day shift, driving 10:15am to 1:15pm. Nice to be home early afternoon.

Before I was a pilot, I was a road warrior. One college summer I put 30,000 miles on my Ram 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel hauling cars around the country wherever the jobs took me. Woke up, fired up the Cummins, and 16 hours/1,000 miles later it'd shut off. That starter will last forever. The furthest I've driven since moving to Ohio was once to Indianapolis for work, but otherwise none of the cars have gone more than 50 miles from home since the move. I miss some of those drives and my cannonball days.

Just finished a trip from Indiana to Phoenix and back via box truck. About 35hours of driving each way and my favorite part is from the Texas - New Mexico border to phoenix and back. We made a few stops for proper mexican (new mexican) food while crossing the state and really enjoyed it. Besides that NM has already been nuked and it stood up pretty well to that. I think only Nevada can say that in the US....

ABQ enroute PHX.

I would miss it.

Living in Gallup for almost 9 years. I came here to work one year then go back to Alaska, but I forgot to leave.:lol::lol:

And (New) Mexican food here is not that good. I miss good Tex-Mex. :yesnod:

Even though its not really new and not really Mexico, it is home.

And because all the planes were in use at the time, I have had to drive 3 trips from Gallup to Phoenix, actually Gilbert. I took I-40 to 377, then 260 and then 87. Really beautiful scenery going through the rim country.

But still I can fly the trip in an hour, much better than driving 3 1/2 hours, especially when I am there for a 2 hour meeting.
