I need to get serious.
I just registered to do a "donut run" next Saturday. It is a 5K and it is put on by the ISU Triathlon Club. There is several donut stations on the route. You get time off your final run time for every donut you eat. They are Krispy Kreme donuts. You get 15 seconds off for the first one, another 30 seconds for the second one, and 45 seconds for the third. Then it goes on with some sort of equation from there. I doubt I'll eat more than three, but maybe more. We will have to see. The rules say that you can't run and eat the donut at the same time, and that there will be observers on the route to make sure that anyone who barfs goes back to zero on the donut count. Another thing is that they don't have t-shirts, they give runners beer glasses with the ISU mascot carrying a donut printed on the side. I hate run t-shirts, and I love beer, so this is great.

they used to do a pi run on 3/14 along the same lines except with pieces of pie instead of donuts. sounds like fun!

Pie would be a little messy. Was it the math club doing a pi run? I'll bet it was rounded off to 3.14159265 miles. I ran the donut run last year. Some people would take three or four donuts, mash them into a ball of dough, and then eat that. The thing was that it took me more time to eat the donut than I got for eating it. I'll bet I sat there for a couple of minutes eating the third one. You would think that it is donuts, but three back to back was about all I could do. One mistake last year was washing them down with Kool Aid. I'm going to wash them down with water this year. Too much sweet with Kool Aid. Maybe four this year. We will have to see. Maybe five. I'm in it for the donuts and the beer glass. I don't think I'll win.:D

Now I remember when I stayed away from the Engi-nerd side of campus. Over on the Biz side, we just ate donuts and pie without having to run to get 'em. :D

Actually, most of the Biz folks wouldn't get the 'pi' reference - they would just think that someone misspelled it on the sign.

business majors stayed away from the engineering side of campus because there weren't any bars there :)

I read the headline "donut run" and thought you were flying somewhere for extra special donuts.

Bah. You just didn't want to have to run while wearing a suit.

Yes, seriously, I've seen a lot of business majors that wear a suit to class every day starting Freshman year. I always want to say, "what are you DOING? You're going to have to wear a monkey suit the rest of your life, why aren't you still wearing comfortable clothes while you still can?"

I loved the video. I think that the difference between the one that we are doing on Saturday is that there are several stations along the route where you can eat donuts. Anyway, we will have to see how it goes. I noticed in the video that all the runners looked like college kids. We got suckered into running a Jingle Jog at ISU one year just before Christmas break. When we got to registration at the Memorial Union and walked in to the Great Hall, my wife said, "this place smells like a dorm room." Kids have a distinctive smell, you know. Sure enough, we looked around and did not see another runner over twenty-two standing there. Finally some guy came walking in who looked about our age. Three old people running with three hundred kids.

Darned math majors have it all wrong. Any country boy can tell you that pie are round. Cornbread are square.
