Kimchi Tuna Stew?

Sounds interesting, but does it smell worse than a limburger and onion sandwich?

We got stinky cheese, and you Pennsylvanians have scrapple :-)

Someone actually eats Kimchi?
I have a Korean neighbor who brings homemade Kimchi, once in a while. It lasts about a day, I have to eat my share before the kids see it.

I need to get her to give me the recipe.

I have never had that. I'll have to remember to some next time I'm at the store just to find out if it's any good.

Some of the best food I've discovered was done by going into resturaunts and ordering things on menu's that I had no flipping clue what it was...assuming I could read the menu's in the first place which is occasionally not the case. In those situations I'll resort to pointing at unreadable foreign words and symbols that look like they might be good.

<--- got tricked into eating things I didn't know I was eating as a kid and because of that, will try just about anything at least once.

Tried something like that once at a Dim Sum place, and would up with chicken's feet. Let's just say that they weren't to my taste.

I've had Kimche, and I've had tuna. I just can't figure out what they have to do with one another!

I ferment Kimchee in my basement all the time; in fact I just ran out and need to make some this weekend. Definitely an acquired taste, but we love it. I'll bring some to the next POA event so you guys can all try it and make faces.

Oh yes. Years ago when I worked at another place, we'd go to a Chinese buffet and they had kimchi on the line. I don't even like cabbage, but a co-worker got me to try it and I liked it. It wasn't until I was recently introduced to real Korean kimchi that I realized that buffet had a pretty weak variety of the stuff. I grew up in an Italian family, so garlic is no problem for me, and I have no problem with spicy, either.

It's not for everybody, though. I'm reminded of this Slashdot story on the development of "space kimchi." The like/dislike divide there was as stout as any SZ argument here.

Well Frank, save your money; it was so-so. I just thought it would be a way to spice up my dinner salads. Definitely tasted mostly like tuna on the way down. A few burps later in the evening reminded me there was kimchi in there. I'd much rather have some good quality kimchi on the side.

I did also pick up a can of bulgogi flavored tuna that was right next to it on the shelves. Will let you know how that one works out. :cheerswine:

You aparently never have eaten Kimchi before.
I dated a half Korean girl, her mom used to make it all the time.
The stuff smells like the ass of a dead dog, tastes great, but leaves you with Montezumas revenge 10x worse than Taco Hell ever thought about doing.

Why in space?
Because in space no one can hear your scream.

LOL!!

I've ordered some mystery stuff and ended up missing the meal because of it more than once. I also found some seriously yummy things I would have never even thought about before. It's a shot in the dark however the trend is considerably more good stuff than bad..so far.

When you wash away the (usually false, trumped up) preconceived notions about a dish, you suddenly find yourself enjoying it.

Tell someone that sweetbreads are "veal", they'll love it.
Tell someone that sweetbreads are "pancreas", they'll probably turn up their nose at it.

I find, that when traveling, you just have to roll with it and try what the restaurant is most proud of. Most of the time, you'll love it.

Cheers,

-Andrew

Jes' be careful or you'll end up with blood sausage on your plate. :vomit: One of the few foods I can't stomach....

Same here. Not often, but sometimes. I live close to the largest Asian community in the DC area.

Same here.

Likewise. How will you ever know that you like something unless you try it? Often it's all in the preparation..... though I must say that's also how I learned that blood sausage is not something I care to eat again.

I'm can survive blood sausage. I *cannot* eat Andouillette, even though I rather enjoy tripe. It's the addition of entrails that kills me.

Cheers,

-Andrew
