Passenger fell out of the gondola after it hit a tent at about 30 ft AGL. I don't want to be the pilot or ground crew explaining that.

I couldn't quite catch in the story why the envelope deflated, causing the hard landing that injured the pilot.

I've seen a couple of those balloon fests, in Albuquerque and Colorado Springs. I guess it's kind of like OSH, when you get that many aircraft together at one time, something is bound to go wrong somewhere.
