rad Jayakody, 30, was told he had to change his T-shirt if he wanted to catch his flight from Heathrow's Terminal 5. His top showed the Transformers film character Optimus Prime holding a gun.

Not TSA, but I could see them enforcing it.

Best,

Dave

BAA security is even more incompetent than the TSA. Hard as that is to believe it is very true. One of several reasons I am currently boycotting all UK airports unless I am actually stopping and staying in the UK.

that is pretty sad. I've gotten through TSA with 2" needles for my diabetes (even though it is legal I was expecting a question) no questions asked every time I've flown (which is like twice)

The only positive thing about airport security is job security for the idiots who are otherwise unemployable.

a month after Sept. 11 my parents flew to Atlanta for a baseball game. at the game my dad bought two laser engraved full size baseball bats with a couple friends names written on them, for gifts. on the flight from Atlanta to Panama City, he had them in his carry on luggage, completely oblivious. got through security no problem. when leaving Panama City TSA said no way, and he was like duh, sorry and put them in his luggage. i couldnt believe it. he carried baseball bats onboard an airliner a month after 9/11 and sailed through security.

As long as we're sharing anecdotal evidence, Leslie and I just flew commercial ORD - DTW (and in her case on to ABE and IAD) and crossed the border twice to Canada (in Detroit via car; tunnel to Canada, bridge to US). We really had no problems at all. Unfortunately, the inconsistency is what causes the REAL problems!

ABE to IAD? She must'a been on one of my company's Saabs?

She was on United 6878. Looks like it's a Colgan Saab!

That used to be a Beech run on the US Air side (ABE was a Beech base when I first started here), but they recently switched it over the Slaab, and then to United, when we started dropping Beeches from the fleet. How did my company-mates treat her?

!@$@$%#$%^$%^@#%$@#$@#$^#$^##@$%2

I could rant for hours about T5 and how incompetent BAA is. BAA makes the TSA look like an exemplar of federal efficiency; I have to go through LHR soon and I'm @#$%#@$%#$ dreading it.

Sigh.

Cheers,

-Andrew

My sympathies. I am off to Amsetrdam week after next and will fly direct to there with no transfer at LHR.

Priceless Scott, priceless. I knew I liked you for a reason!

Anyone been through KUL or MNL? Comments on airport security?

No Problems crossing the Tunnel & Bridge to Canada? Do you forget the grilling by the Canadan customs officer:

Citizenship?
all US
What are your intentions?
Watch the Red Bull Air Race
Where do you live?
Chicigo, Royal Oak, and PA
And HOW do you know each other?
Pilots of America Web Board! :goofy:

Supprised they let us through.

Missa

Funny thing was I was just in DC at a AIPAC Policy conference. Certainly a group that generates a LOT of dislike amongst some. There were 7500+ in attendance, Including John McCain, Condi Rice, Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama and members of the house and senate. The security was tight but the DC convention center ran that securtiy so extremely well I was blown away. The security folks were VERY thorough but was also very polite and professional. If TSA ran things the way they did boy would things be different. Just goes to show that security can be thorough and not an ordeal.

Same deal at the Copenhagen airport in February and Malpensa (Milan) last month. Thorough, but professional. Thousands Standing Around has a lot to learn.
