Diversity to trump merit in evaluating new ATC hires

Thank you boomers, you are the best ever.

What I've never understood about this diversity hire business is how they expect the other employees to view the diversity hire with respect, knowing the person had a lower standard to meet than they did.

You certainly hear it all the time "he only got hired because he's a _______". I dunno how true it is, but people sure do think it. So much of this stuff is one step forward and two more back sadly.

Time to strangle every last thing they can before they finally go and leave us their mess to clean up.
It'll just cost the government a lot of money in training until they wash out. Meanwhile people continue to retire and staffing shrinks. It's what the boomers really want anyway, then they can say they saved the gov a ton of money.

Not only is diversity more important than qualifications, there are allegations that the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees gave their favored applicants the correct answers to use on the Biographical Questionnaire.
The FOX Business investigation uncovered an audio text message sent by FAA employee and NBCFAE executive Shelton Snow which appears to instruct FAA job applicants how to cheat on an FAA air traffic control screening exam. Mr. Snow, who is also an air traffic controller, sent the lengthy message to members of the NBCFAE who hoped to pass the personality test known as the “Biographical Questionnaire” now required by the FAA. On the recording obtained by FBN, Snow says, “There is some valuable pieces of information that I have taken a screen shot of and I am going to send that to you via email…as you progress through the stages refer to those images so you will know which icons you should select,” Snow goes on to refer specifically to members of the Human Resources office saying, “I have a good mind to send it to one of my HR representatives to sign off on it before you actually click it.” Snow has refused to discuss the recording or his role in the cheating scandal with FOX Business.

..and when one of them runs two airbus's together he'll probably sue the very system that hired him and he'll win.

Another failure of the Obama Administration and it's pathetic appointees. This isn't a "boomer" issue....this is Liberalism at its finest. Merit doesn't matter. It's doing what's "fair", common sense be damned.

This stuff predates the current administration by a long shot. It is just the coliseum roof collapsing and letting in a little sunshine.

Diversity worked well with the TSA. Why would you want to hire the best qualified ,if they don't fit the demographics your trying to accomplish ? This administration. Is going to change the percentage of minority's one way or the other.

Yep....while having a 95% failure rate on detecting the important stuff they're supposed to find.

The Boomers brought this progressive/liberal garbage to the mainstream starting as the came of age in the mid/late 1960's. I am a Boomer so I witnessed the psycho babble, blame society, social engineering, communism first hand.

This might be the attitude that weeds out the ones that really shouldn't have gotten in in the first place (but it will lead to other problems.)

Getting certified as a controller is a long grind. The acceptance, and possible scamming of the initial screening, is just step one. After that, the candidates will still need to go through several training iterations, all of which can have a significant fail rate. New trainees still have a long way to go after they get past the first application stage.

What will be a problem - numbers. If a higher percentage of "diversity hires" fail than the normal pool, there are two ways to look at it: 1) they shouldn't have been there in the first place, 2) would you look at that, the system is stacked against them, it isn't fair.

Why wouldn't ATC school have social promotions? Public safety is already trumped by social progress and equality.

This is not a boomer issue. I'm a boomer and the OP, and it makes me want to PUKE.

Sorry boomer these policies are the creation of your people. You made em up you boomsters still push them on the world.

It has happened before. After the controller strike in 1981, Reagan replaced all the seasoned pros with beginners.

ATC never did catch up.

Really? Best move he ever made.

the faa no longer gives any preference whatsoever to CTI grads, the CTI program has basically been gutted.

Yes and no.

The easiest place to wash is at the academy, I do not know what their wash rate is currently, it had been quite low.
It gets harder to wash someone as their training progresses... some facilities like ZNY are the exception, I think they run single digit success rates.
Even then they just shove them down to a lower level facility... usually...

the academy is basically one 4 month job interview. then the real training starts at the facility, 3 years worth at ours, +\-

:rolleyes2:

the cream really rises to the top of the POA cesspool.
I really could go on at length on the topic, but the average user around here is so ******** delusional I won't waste my time.

Guess you would be more comfortable on the Huffington Post talking about your feelings.

No, I think you'd be better off on fox news talking about your delusions.

The faa training will get social promotion. Funny how people think the entry is compromised but the rest of the filtering machinery will work.

"Given that training an air-traffic controller can cost more than $400,000 on average, selecting candidates based on who is likely to complete the process makes economic sense." ---- a quote from the article.

This is exactly the problem I have. I don't care who gets te air traffic controller jobs but I do care where my money in taxes is going. How many people who pay income taxes would like to know that their hard earned money is going to pay for someone who answered the question, " how many sports did you play in high school?" correctly rather than someone who has received an education on how to control planes correctly at the CTI's already in place? The absolute absurdity is beyond comprehension.

.... "Best and brightest"..... A confusing saying in these times.
