stay safe. Nasty storm - tornadoes, hail, and pouring rain.

I hope all y'all in the Dallas/Fort Worth area are safe. Please let us know that you're okay when you have time.

I'm just outside of KDTO's D-space ring... dark clouds been going through all day...

Not a good time to have cheap'd out on only have a ramp tie down versus hangar.

This is gonna be a bad year for twisters.

why do you think it will be any different than any other year?

It's been abnormally hot - and it's started so early this year. We actually had a tornado down here.

we had tornado warnings in february, but that is not really uncommon. my first year in Wichita (Spring 2010) i arrived mid february and sirens went off once a week for a month.

You're gonna need one hell of a hangar to protect your plane from that!

Fortunately, that photo from south dallas... well far from me.

But we still have a heavy storm passing to the west, tracking along I35W

I just got in touch with Spike - he said the bad stuff is going through just now. He's ok though. Anyone heard from Troy?

I just talked to him on facebook - he said its all east of him

He got back to me too (Troy). He says the Fort Worth side is out of danger now. Reported tornado on the ground in the Addison area.

Checkin' in! Both David and Kimberly got me via text or FB. Weather for us has moved off to the east (I'm in far north Fort Worth, east of 35W between Meacham and Alliance airports). Addison and Dallas still getting hammered. Just heard a confirmed tornado on the ground to the west of Addison airport, Spike / Wayne / Dave's nests.

Video of the semi trailers being tossed a couple hundred feet in the air was impressive... yikes.

OMG there is a "regular" sized car in that video driving along the road.

Wow, glad we went north rather than south today...

I'm in Irving by DFW airport. Large hail (almost baseball size) fell for about 3 minutes. All the cars in our parking lot got damage. Going to be some dented planes at DFW.

Saw live report of a tornado on the ground about a mile north of KADS. I was there for lunch, but saw WX coming and came home.

Where are you at now?

I'm in far North Dallas. Just some rain and lighting as far as I can tell. Granddaughters are here and nothing bad enough to spook them, but it looks as if more storms are moving from the south toward us. We're watching closely.

Best,

Dave

Time to raise my prices on hoods and trunk lids!

Troy et. al... Remember the Cinco de Mayo hailstorm?

We are frequently warned about not flying anywhere near thunderstorms, and I respect that.

Makes me think those news copter pilots are either single, stupid, or are near overweight from the size and material of their cajones.

They're within 20 nm, for sure, but have some incredible zoom lenses and gyro-stabilized cameras... I've seen them zoom WAY OUT and was amazed how far away they really were while capturing images.

they are also most likely on the upwind side of the storm in relatively clear calm air?

i haven't seen a hailstone yet that will fly upwind

Isn't there video of an OKC news helo nearly pulled in by "cloud suck"?

Glad all are OK. Dallas can sure get some nasty weather this time 'o year.

Spike said he and his Bonanza are ok.

Actually, david, I am assuming it's ok because I further assume I would have heard about it if it had not been. I got a call from the A&P at hose shop it was, asking if I could come and move over to my hangar so they could get more planes in this hangar, and since I was able to bet the WX to the field, was glad to accommodate. It was gusty and rainy as I taxied across the gild, but nay too bad.

There were early reports of tornadoes sighted/on the ground near ADS... any confirmation?

Update at 5:46 p.m. ET: American Airlines has canceled all its remaining flights at Love Field to inspect planes for damage, MSNBC reports.

More than 225 outbound flights were canceled and the airport is closed to all inbound traffic until 9 p.m. CT (10 p.m. ET), NBCDFW says. Departing flights won't be allowed to take off until they are inspected for hail and storm damage.

At DFW Airport, American Airlines was having to inspect 68 planes for hail damage. Thirty-seven American flights were diverted and will stay in those cities overnight.

American Eagle Airlines diverted 11 flights, and 33 of its planes will be inspected.

If AA took significant damage, that could be a blessing in disguise after insurance pays off. That'd totally change things for them.
