The da 62 is sleek... or thats what i have been told :D

As a more serious post

-the DA62 is my benchmark of what we should be able to do with modern GA tech. With the upcoming DA50 it is nice to see someone outside of Cirrus advancing the field here
--full fadec
--1,800 hr TBO (how many Cirrus make it that far?)
--12-14 gallons an hour, combined, in cruise
--respectable cruise speeds (Bonanza, Cirrus, territory)
--very comfortable cabin with all the modern creature comforts one could possibly want
--ample seating and load flexibility
--strong construction, double spar, they have photos of their wing stress test (like what the big boys do)
--3 doors, so the middle row isn't doing the seat gymnastics

The biggest obstacles?
--The ridiculous price of the thing. You can buy a used TBM for that price and have turbine reliability, 300 knots of speed, pressurization, etc
--People afraid of diesel
--Many don't see Diamond as a real contender, they see them as that goofy looking Austrian brand that looks like powered gliders with joysticks

Angel City fliers has at least one that is $600/hr to rent (ouch!!).. but keep thinking this would be a fun gift to myself to check one out first hand.. would be a cool logbook entry

One other obstacle common to all Diamonds, the wingspan. So much of our GA infrastructure is based on older planes with less than 40 foot wingspan.

Of course if you can afford the cost of purchase, I suppose you can afford hangar too.

It looks pretty slick. I think I need to triple my net worth before I put in my order, though. Would be a fun personal airplane.

That's right.. hangars are limited and you probably don't want to keep a plane like that baking outside in the sun and elements.

Out of a 171 hangars I looked at on the airport authority homepage it would fit in about 13 of them. None of the 13 are empty. Some of those 13 hangars lease over $1k a month for Lincoln Nebraska. Those same hangars would probably lease for $3k+ a month in coastal metro areas.

How much is the insurance at those new prices? $30k a year? A whole lot of older pilots are being given rates that are forcing them sell their retracts.

I also appreciated the different levels of mask etiquette in the video, full mask, chin guard, no mask.

Not going to unseat the Twin Comanche as the most economical twin, any time soon.
