DA-40 Down in Northern Maine

That's a shame. Are there any FIKI DA-40s? The icing forecasts for that area were pretty nasty today - lots of SLD below 10,000, if I recall correctly. Bad even with FIKI, if you couldn't clime out of it. Maybe he thought he could stay VMC after departure, and something else went wrong. I wonder if this will be investigated by the NTSB or the Canadians?

The DA40 does not have any type of anti-ice capability other than avoidance.

No FIKI or even anti-ice available on DA40's, from the factory or otherwise.

This was posted on the Diamond board:

It was an epic snow storm. A true blizzard. All of the airports were closed yesterday, including Burlington which is a good sized class C. Even the 727s were not flying yesterday.

Sounds like a bad day to have been flying anything, much less something that has no anti-ice at all.
