Crazy Women is a legend, story, or fact from Crow indian lore. There are two strories for this naming. The first is that a woman was the sole survior after an attack on her village. Later she is seen leaping and acting, well, crazy, by the another tribe. For some reason they thought this was an act by the crazy women that brought them luck so they left her alone to be crazy.
The other is the story of a white man who sold whiskey to the indians. When it was gone they demanded more but he did not have it to sell to them. He was killed and his wife managed to escape the attack only to wander in her insanity from seeing her husband killed. This legend goes on that Jerimiah Johnson found her and took care of her until her death.
There are several things in WY. named after her, such as Crazy Women creek, and a Crazy Women Canyon. There are even retail establishments that have taken up her name.
