Hi all, new to the group. I'm located in CT and looking to see which of you all are in the area as well. Have been setting up fly-in lunches, etc. recently and looking to expand the pool - always great to meet and talk with other pilots at a great airfield cafe! Looking to do some fly-in camping this year as well.
 
Where in CT? I keep my Hatz biplane at Chester (SNC).
 
I’m across the river at MSV
 
I fly a 172 out of KISP on Long Island. 44N is one of my favorites, as is KGON, both have a great little on airport Cafe. Also fly into KBID regularly. They have a great place as well. KPYM (Plymouth), and KEWB (New Bedford) also have great places to eat at the airports.
 
I would do a meal at sky acres/44N. It is where all the local pilots go for fuel as they are the cheapest around.
 
I just brought my plane home for some engine work but normally I'm based at Windham(IJD). There is a great little diner out by the main road. You can get to it from a path just off the south ramp

I rent out of KHWV( Brookhaven N.Y.). All my usual spots have been mentioned above in terms of places to go for food. I also really like KBAF. That airport has a nice restaurant and the airports itself is tremendous!

Shepherd- Is that diner on the field? Way back when I first started flying I liked KPOU as there was the Warnock House you could walk to. They had a "bronto burger" that was worth the trip. I understand that closed years ago.
 
The diner at 44N (sky Acres) is open Thursday - Sunday. The diner on the field at KPOU is normally open Tuesday - Sunday, but is currently closed due to construction.
Both are called "Tail Wind Cafe" and are owned by the same people.
 
I am recently based at Chester (KSNC)... attached is a pic taken at Sky Acres the other day... my first passenger (son) since 1982 when I put flying on pause for... 36 years...; ).

It is hard to beat flying around CT, NY and New England... the coast, the hills, the changing seasons... if we take our heads out of the glass panel once in a while and look outside, the views are unreal... I am looking forward to flying out West and the MidWest one day however.

Great breakfast, very nice people at Sky Acres by the way. Still learning and practicing. Class D and C next up... Plan on practicing my ATC skills at GON soon...

Welcome back! If you are OK with turf runways, put Basin Harbor, VT B06 on your list in the fall. Gorgeous scenery, restaurant right next to the field. -Skip

Me too! Me Too! Can I land there?

It's only 1.1hrs and 1 stop for gas away from GBR.
It's 1.3 hrs and 1 gas stop from 44N.
That's Cub hours.
 
Shep, a Cub would look perfect sitting on that field.

OTOH, I also found this ground transportation and helicopter sitting on the field. It needs a Cub for aesthetic balance, don't 'cha know?

I used to live up in Connecticut just a few miles down the road from 4B8 in Plainville. It's a nice little airport. We would used to go there some evenings and watch the traffic come and go. Haven't been there in over 8 years, though. I was wondering if there was any noticeable changes there in that time frame?

I "re-learned" in a Cub... not a more fun plane to fly in the world. I discovered that planes have rudder pedals in that Cub...; )

I doubt much has changed. Only been based there since this past September, but it's nice and quiet.
 
Actually hit Sky Acres during my BFR when I returned to flying! Once the CFI was good that I knew what I was doing well enough, he had me fly up there and bought me breakfast. I had an 18 year gap in flying, returning to the skies last June (2018). Since then, I've hit 3B0, EEN, RUT, EWB, PYM, 1B6, N45, and 44N for lunch. Looking to keep adding to that list for sure!
 
I used to train at N27 until the flight school got shut down. Flying out of 7N1 now. PPL hopefully this spring. I'd be interested in burger runs or a fly-in.
 
Goodspeed (42B) has several restaurants and the Goodspeed Playhouse within easy walking distance.
 
I’m in fla for the winter,would be up for a northeast fly in in the summer.
 
What about northern MA and southern NH??? These trips sound fun.
 
Once the weather warms up we usual schedule occasional meetups on New England Pilots on FB. Sometimes they spill over onto here as well.

Ah yes, Warnock House. Park at the city ramp and walk thru the bushes to the restaurant. Fond memories. Several of us would fly up from KFRG, for lunch and dinner.

I totally agree, I know I’m biased but I think we have it the best in the whole nation up here in the Northeast in terms of options to fly in. Want to go fly to a beach? Check, want to fly to the hills?,Check, want to fly to small towns? Check, big cities? Check! It’s really amazing the options that are out there! Plus the scenery is great, we learn how to be good pilots in all weather conditions, we deal with all 4 seasons and we learn how to communicate with ATC well because we fly around in some of the busiest airspace in the world!

I’m very proud to share the sky with my fellow Northeast pilots!
 
I am the only human being alive without Face Book. So, if you plan a NE get together, please list the announcement here as well. It would be great to meet a bunch of North East pilots.
PS: so, I bought a tent and a sleeping bag recently to motivate me to practice/practice/practice for hopefully a flight to Oshkosh this Summer. Flying and camping at Oshkosh is at the top of the bucket list. I hope i am skilled enough to safely go.

It's a pretty place to fly, but not great in terms of places to land.

Three here. I was in college right at the time that this “face book” thing started and made a decision not to bother with it. 16 years later, still not bothering.

And is a pretty cool airport to fly into, along the river with that bridge looming nearby!
 
Regarding Goodspeed, there is a nice little coffee (lattes, espressos, etc.) / breakfast/lunch place that is short walk from the airport. Worth checking out. Note, sometimes the airport (private) is closed, so check first.
 
Goodspeed isn't private. Unattended and pretty dead, though, which is a pity as it's in such a great location. I based my Kolb there until I got tired of always waiting for the drawbridge (I live on the other side of the river). My friends mostly gave up on the place too, and moved to SNC.

My wife and I have never had Facebook, MySpace, MyFace, Spacebook, SpaceForce, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, or any other “social media” accounts. I don’t consider a forum (like Jeep forum, tc airplane stuff, PoA, or the like) to be “social media” in anywhere near the same class as FaceBook, Instagram, etc.

Stop by the airstrip some time and we can hash it all out over a few beers and some homemade whisky next to the firepit, next to the runway.

I plan to head up there this summer actually - have talked to Pete Burns a couple of times as well. Will be interesting to see the "dog-leg" runway in action. Are there fish in the pond at the field? Though I'm sure the fishing is decent in the Hudson, which doesn't look too far away.
 
I’m definitely interested in a fly-in! I’m based at KMGJ (Orange County Airport, NY).
