Last night around 1AM I heard the most unnatural sound coming from the woods. Over the course of about 30 minutes this animal moved around making this almost bird like call. I have never heard anything like it before. It became extremely creepy when it came up next to the house. It was loud enough that I could hear it clearly at any location within the house.

I got two recordings of the sound when it started to move off away from the house.

I apologizes for the faint recordings. You may have to turn up the volume.

Anyone have any idea what kinda of animal this maybe?

For some reason I can't play the recordings.

The creepiest bird sounds I ever heard were peacocks. I really thought I was listening to a murder while on a 5:30am run until I figured out what it was.

For some reason I can't play the recordings.

The files are extremely quite on my computer. I had to turn up the sound on my speakers to almost max to hear.

On the flipside, the file on my phone plays extremely loud.

Sounds a bit like my ex... If so, it would be scary indeed.

We had a strange sound from our woods for years, only in the spring(s), that we couldn't identify, until our neighbour travelled to the east coast (we're on the West Coast) and heard the same sound. Turns out it was an owl....it sounded like a woodpecker pecking, but on a strange type of tree.

It might be something in the weasel family. I've heard recordings of fishers screaming that sound like that. Do you have badgers in your area by any chance?

Here in the Cabot ar area, we have some foxes that really have a creepy sound like you describe (sorry, can't play the audio right now). Living in the country, we hear the strangest things...

Foxes do make a strange screaming sound. (My PC speakers are toast and my phone won't play the video, so I still haven't heard it.)

That sounds just like a blue heron. Is there water nearby?

I think that your creepy animal was probably a bobcat. Google "bobcat cry" or bobcat call" and see what you think.

We heard a really weird sound yesterday morning repeatedly. After talking to a couple of people who grew up here and listening to sounds on google, I'm satisfied that we heard a bobcat. Couldn't hear the sounds very well on your postings but thought it was similar.

love that show! those guys are a true success story. they get paid for that!!!

I'll take your word for it but you've not heard a women's scream until you've heard a seal scream when caught with a mouthful of hooks.

Oy, then try to remove them! Had the owners out on the tender at Catalina and went by a rock and saw this girl hauled out on all tangled up in line so if she moved she tore at the hooks in her mouth. I had him drop me on the rock and I cleared her with a Leatherman.

Badgers? We don't need no stinking BADGERS!

That is a fox.
I have an audio of almost the same thing around here somewhere...maybe a defunct computer.
We hike before daybreak and heard it many times, finally took a camera with vid/audio and captured the sound. Then during several hikes we saw one making that sound. A few times I saw the fox, and mimicked the sound and she called back to us.
Before we knew for sure, I believe it was on YT that we found similar audio tracks.
Foxes can make a variety of sounds, some of their sounds are very different from this.
