Hey everyone!

So figured I’d get a gauge on everyone here who went through these exams already. As a background I already hold my AGI/IGI, and Private Instrument ratings. I have another 25 hours to bang out before I qualify for the Commercial checkride but I wanted to get a gauge of what everyone though my CPL, and CFI rides will be like based upon my experience and written scores. For the CPL I got a 90, and the CFI I got a 91. Both scores I feel are strong. From my experience during my oral for my instrument the examiner said ‘You hold an A/IGI I don’t need to examine you on most basic things I do with most instrument candidates as I know you have the experience teaching it’. My question is, will the same hold true for my CFI Oral exam? Regardless the CFI is always going to be the hardest. Just curious what everyone thinks. Also I am scheduled to take my CFI-I written in the next few days, how do most pilots handle getting the -I added? Immediately after the CFI? Later on? Thanks everyone!

CFI initial will hit every single FOI, 1-2 hrs, then will proceed to the rest of the exam per the PTS. My oral was 5 hrs.

The rumor of agi getting you out of foi oral is bogus.

add on cfi-i will be a cake walk.

Study hard and good luck!

I hadn't heard the rumor, yet my exam did exactly that. I presume there has been some sort of "clarification" since my ride in 2010.

My oral was about 5 hours too. He literally drained every ounce of FAR knowledge he could find, then we went flying while my head re-inflated. :D

The fact you already are an “authorized instructor” raises the the bar on the oral in my view. The written test scores buy you nothing.

I had my AGI/IGI and did my CFI Initial this year. The only thing the Ground Instructor certificate got me out of was having to take the FOI written exam again per the FAR’s.

I only had to show up with the CFI Airplane written exam results along with the Ground Instructor certificate.

The FOI was still covered in the oral along with about everything else that’s test with the AGI/IGI. Having an AGI/IGI gets you out of nothing for the oral. It’s all fair game. My oral was also about 5-6 hours.
