Looking info on cost of having a Garmin 345 installed.Anyone who has had one done or gotten a firm quote I'd appreciate your help.

Yup. And that's why 2019 is looking better and better.
GTX345 w/o GPS $4995 installed.

With a box that retails around 4.3AMUs? Yeah right.

Gulf Coast Avionics lists the installed baseline at 4,290 for the 335 w/o WAAS internal (aka installation in an aircraft with WAAS GPS already installed, which negates the extra labor of the GPS antenna installation and the added hardware cost of the GTX box with internal WAAS processor). It stands to reason a 345 installation will cost at least 2AMUs more by the price of the 345 box alone compared to 335. The 7300 quote sounds closer to the case for a 345 installation. I agree though, this is why GA is effed. 7.3 Amus for a dumb position box to be allowed to remain in radar controlled airspace. Joke.

Considering Garmin limits a purchaser to premium apps (Pilot or FF), who would want a $5000 box with limited options.

I just quoted $4900 for a 335 with internal GPS for a friend of mine. Which is probably a bit low since his transponder antenna is too far away and must be relocated due to coax cable loss issues.

I think the local shop is quoting $2k flat rate labor + equipment costs.

Personally I'd put new antenna and encoder in at the same time.

$6500 installed, driven by a 430W already in the panel. After selling my GTX-327, Stratus II, plus $500 back from the FAA, the total cost was about 5 AMUs.

you need a waas GPS source - if you don't have that - then get a Stratus.

If you don't have a WAAS navigator and are interested at the Garmin G5, buy a GTX335 or 345 with internal GPS receiver.

I sometimes wonder whether folks post these absurdly low prices for installed equipment or the overhaul they did on their engine just to get a rise out of people.

Your cost for a 345 install will vary depending on already installed equipment and antenna configuration. Every installer we asked for a quote wanted to either
- inspect the aircraft before giving a binding quote
- give a non-binding quote with a 'additional work as needed at $75/hr + materials' contingency.

Oh, and I like the thing. Never knew how much other traffic was out there. Also, we'll probably drop the XM subscription at the next renewal. On the ground I can get weather on my phone and it works in the air by the time I need to make weather decisions.

Aside, a little birdy told me that you can buy the GTX-335 with internal GPS kit K10-00276-03 and it will come with the STC and letter of authorization to use said STC, allowing field installations. You (owner) may be capable of physical installation under your mechanic's supervision. A mechanic with Inspection Authorization (IA) will be needed to complete the 337 form. The catch is, you need a third wheel, a certified repair station who can perform the transponder/altitude reporting system inspection at the end. That inspection typically costs around $250. There are people offering mobile transponder services that would be happy to do it heavily populated areas.

It looks like now Garmin is bundling the GDL-39 with the GTX-335 for $2999, copying the Stratus ESGi offer basically. http://garmin.blogs.com/promotions/...tional-bundle-save-hundreds.html#.WRYsMVLMxQM

The biggest reason I would recommend the 335/345 over the stratus is later avionics installations connectivity such as the Garmin G5 or GTN series boxes.

$6500 installed using our 530W position source. Included new belly antenna, cable and the new Garmin digital encoder. Additionally a new breaker for our avionics power distribution panel. Included removing our old encoder and cleaning up our avionics cooling distribution tubing. Also the 91.411 and 91.413 24 month certifications. Plus we got the $500 FAA rebate so closer to $6000 out the door. It took us 7 months to get an installation date so plan accordingly as the shops are crazy busy doing these.

Nice unit, highly recommended.

I just had a GTX345 installed in a late model Archer with dual 430w units and a G500. $6500 out the door.

It is my understanding that the 345 is the only option out there right now that will interface with the G500 to display the ADS-B weather and traffic, which is what was desired.

Where? Need to find out where best to schedule up my order/install.
Greenwood Avionics at Greenwood SC airport. KGRD
I should also point out that the $4995 install for the GTX345 w/o GPS is in conjunction with a GTN650 install. GTN650 installed was $11,700.

What CDI is it hooked to and did you already have it?

Finished install. Cost was $6676 tax included.
There was a little weather nearby when we picked it up. The ADSB weather depiction on Foreflight was digital real blocky. Not smooth like the images I get from WIFI or LTE.Is there something I have set wrong or is that the way it's going to be?
Not a big deal ,but not as pretty.

I haven't noticed the ipad weather screen being extreemly blocky. How far away was the weather on the screen? Notice how large the regional area is.

See the little yellow and green blocks at the top left of your Ipad. All of mine was blocky like that. Might have gotten better with time to load more data or a stronger signal.

I got quotes recently from a shop at my home field that's familiar with my Cardinal for $5,993 and another from Autopilot Central at Tulsa for $6,155. Non-GPS GTX-345 interfaced to a GNS-430

There are 2 radar products for ADS-B, regional and national. Regional has better resolution (less blocky). Neither product's resolution is as good as NEXRAD via internet.

Pippen-York in Fredericksburg, Texas, did our GTX 345 (without the internal GPS) last December for $5,500 installed. We had some other work on the same quote, though; I don't know if that affected the cost.

Is the Garmin 345 worth the extra 2-3k premium over the Garmin 335 model?

I felt so, but I didn't spend a dime on any portable ADS-B in devices prior to buying the 345.

We have a gns430w and just had the gtx345 installed. I flew 8.5 hours behind it last weekend, coupled to garmin pilot. Incredibly helpful for weather and traffic. Wow

Did you guys consider the Lynx 9000 before the Garmin 345? I really liked the Lynx unit I tried at last year fly in.

I'm my case too much money and would be paying for a display I won't really use. My panel mount 345 is way over on the right side on my panel so I remote control it from the GTN screen.

I am curious why you went with the panel mount xponder? Doesn't Garmin have an ADS-B compliant remote mount xponder that pairs with the 650/750?

Even more money and no increased functionality, lose control of it if GTN fails. There is no plus really so I replaced a KT76A with the panel mount

We considered the Lynx because of the screen on the panel and it is wi-fi instead of bluetooth, Ended up going Garmin because none of us thought the screen was large enough and we didn't think pairing the bluetooth most of the time would be problematic.

[the 345 remembers 13 paired devices, we have 14 members, many with multiple devices pairing on each flight, so it seems likely they will be adding the device back often]

When we installed a 650 and 345 in our Warrior we went with using the transponder panel rather than the 650. It's just easier to set the squawks directly rather than have to dig around in the menus when told to 'squawk VFR, go away'.

There is a remote mount version of the 345 that probably makes sense for a lot of airplanes.

Our 345 does know the transponder code, heck maybe it can even set the code. I'll try it next time I fly that airplane.

I thought the Lynx 9000 was around the same ballpark cost as the 345 but depends on features, right?

http://sarasotaavionics.com/avionics/lynx-ngt9000

They have it for 5400 about same price as 345. Actually it is a wee bit more than the 345

BUT if I had to do one and did not have a newer Garmin GTN 750/650 or Avidyne IFD GPS and just need a transponder the touch screen map and display with METARS/TAFs is quite nice option.

The Garmin 345 does have a nice clean smaller footprint however. I think also resale value goes to Garmin.

The only difference I'm aware of on the GTN, when remote control of the GTX enabled, is a permanent icon on the moving map page. Since most of the time it's on that page it's just one tap to access it then enter whatever the code is or the "VFR" icon and then hit enter or enter+ident icon. Pretty easy. Also can use the keys on the GTX.

I'll see if ours work that way.

I believe I paid around $4500 at the shop to get it done A-Z
